To all those wondering if someone behind the camera is pointing a gun at him; it seems to me like he's recording audio samples for a series of lessons, where it's more important to play the tune as clearly as possible than it is to play variations, flashy stuff, or indeed, to add much emotional content.

(But yes, to call this "demonstrating some of the best flatpicking guitar skills" is kinda stretching it...)

Recording lesson videos aimed at a particular developing skill level of student is exactly what Brian was doing - for each tune in the course repertoire, he creates a basic, intermediate, and advanced level performance that follows exactly a skill-matched tablature arrangement he's created - this is NOT Brian Sutton in improvisational / jamming / stage performance mode. The sort of creatively improvisational performance some commentators are claiming is lacking here (e.g. compared to David Grier ) would undermine the purpose for which Brian is creating this series of videos, which are designed to be do-ably teachable to lesser aspiring mortals trying to learn to flatpick a guitar.
- I am a student of Brian's in this very course - and he's incredibly generous with the feedback he provides to student video submissions of themselves playing Brian's arrangements aimed at their level - he often provides 15 minutes of feedback (his guitar in hand) for a 2-3 minute submission of an intermediate student's performance of e.g. "Whiskey Before Breakfast". (which is what I think this particular video is - the intermediate version).

Don't get me wrong - I love David Grier, but if Grier did a set of instructional videos aimed at lesser than virtuoso levels, his performance would be much simplified and more straightforward for that purpose, very similar in nature to what Brian

True and Im in awe of her talents but her speed sucks the life of the melodies. I'd love to listen to her do a bunch of Irish jigs and reels with lush melodies at normal speeds.
