They were formed in the summer of 2006 during a music summer camp under the name LAI LAI HEI (named of the Ensiferum track of the same name). After the win of a camp-competition covering the Ensiferum track "Token of Time", the band quickly became more serious and started to compose their own music under the current name Brymir. Their first album Breathe Fire to the Sun (2011) still held some folk metal influences, but the band has moved away from these influences in their music towards their current melodic death metal / symphonic metal sound from their second album Slayer of Gods (2016) onwards.

Far From Home
Brymir Lyrics

Far away from home
Lost and disconnected
Tired and alone
She beckoned me with weary eyes
Set deep within her battered skull
Bores into me - into my shattered soul:
Can you not see that your attack
Will raze the world before the war is won?
Lit by the fire that barks in the night
Faces of warriors too hungry to fight
Tides of battle are turning
Lay down your arms and run
Far from home
Far away from home
From the butcher's throne
None remains but ruin
Sons in shallow graves
Torn apart in shell fire
Empire in shame
Do you remember how brothers embraced
The same ones a cold horde is laying to waste?
We wish for the warhorns to silence their sound
And tyrants be driven into the ground
Far away from home
From the butcher's throne
In Brymir’s song “Far from Home,” the lyrics convey a distinct feeling of isolation and despair that comes with being lost and disconnected while wandering alone in the darkness, far from the comforts of home. The singer is exhausted, both physically and mentally, and is approached by a weary woman with a warning to leave the area and not return. She warns that the singer’s actions will bring destruction and chaos to the world before the war is even over. The following lines describe a battle that has reached a turning point, with warriors too torn and tired to fight, urging their comrades to lay down their arms and flee the battlefield.
The chorus, “Far from home, from the butcher’s throne,” speaks to the loss and devastation of war. The singer reflects that all that remains is ruin, with sons lying in shallow graves torn apart by shell fire, and an empire left in shame. The song holds a message of hope as well, as the singer remembers the days when brothers embraced each other before heading off to war together, and the hope that someday, the sound of war drums will cease, and tyrants will be driven into the ground.
Overall, the lyrics of “Far from Home” are a poignant and powerful commentary on the futility and cost of war, and the isolating feelings that come with being caught in the midst of it.
