Jingle Bell Rock
Buchanan & Goodman Lyrics

Mean Mistreater
Oh yeah! Sort of a "Matchbox" feel, but what a great groove! Sing it out
for someone you used to love!

I got the hatchback loaded
I got my suitcase on the floor
I got the hatchback loaded
I got my suitcase on the floor
Well you're a mean mistreater
I just can't stay here anymore

You used to be so nice
You used to love me all the time
You used to be so nice
You used to love me all the time
Well you're a mean mistreater
I've got to find some peace of mind

You know I worked so hard
I try to keep you satisfied

You know I worked so hard
I try to keep you satisfied
Well you're a mean mistreater
These are the last tears that I cried

You know I sure do love you
You got a spell that I can't fight
You know I sure do love you
You got a spell that I can't fight
Well you're a mean mistreater
I need someone to treat me right

I got the hatchback loaded
I got my suitcase on the floor
I got the hatchback loaded
I got my suitcase on the floor

Well you're a mean mistreater
I just can't stay here anymore

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Buchanan & Goodman's song "Mean Mistreater" evoke a sense of longing and disappointment in a past relationship. The singer expresses feelings of betrayal and mistreatment, reflecting on a time when the person they loved used to be kind and loving. The repetitive refrain of "You used to be so nice, you used to love me all the time" highlights a sense of nostalgia for a happier past, contrasting sharply with the present reality of feeling mistreated.

The imagery of the hatchback loaded and the suitcase on the floor suggests a sense of readiness to leave, emphasizing the finality of the decision to walk away from a toxic relationship. The repeated mention of being a "mean mistreater" further emphasizes the hurt and frustration felt by the singer, who has reached a breaking point and can no longer stay in a situation that is causing them pain.

The singer expresses their efforts to keep the relationship alive, mentioning how hard they worked to satisfy their partner. This highlights the imbalance in the relationship dynamic, where one person is giving their all while the other is being emotionally neglectful and hurtful. The plea for someone to treat them right reflects a desire for love and respect that is not being met in the current relationship.

Overall, "Mean Mistreater" captures the emotional turmoil of a relationship that has gone sour, with the singer realizing they deserve better treatment than they are receiving. The song conveys a sense of resilience and self-worth as the singer asserts their need to find peace of mind and someone who will love them genuinely. It serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of self-love and standing up for oneself in the face of mistreatment.

"Meanwhile, back on the satellite..." Sounds like a hell of a party....

@osufwiffo

This sounds identical to what we had.

@padawanjesus

LOL wtf ! this is like a meme in 1957

@djdavemick

Many snippets on side 2 are not original, understandably.

@TheCapt57

I would think it was harder for them to edit out the original snippets and insert the cheesy '70s (or later) remakes.  The framework is all original, as well as the Timmie Rogers and Rays bits in Part 2.  My Dickie Goodman CD has both Parts 1 and 2 with altered snippets.  I was not happy.

@baylinkdashyt

There's some question as to whether this is original? It certainly sounds to me like it was all the original Clips I used to hear.

@montecristo1845

Never listened to the 45 rpm record. In the eighties I had this on audio cassette “Dr. Demento’s Christmas Collection” but this/these tracks were left off the CD decades later. Along with the Three Stooges’ “Wreck the Halls.” As far as the song snippets go, they’re the ones I remember (after listening to it a hundred times growing up!) they just sound remastered is all.

@narkspud691

The original used all the original hits. Part 2 of this one's definitely been doctored. Odd, because part 1 uses the original "Keep a Knockin'" and "Little Bitty Pretty One", and part 2 doesn't. Here's the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f-ZnRQ2FJE
