( Some artists work for years to earn the name diva and be considered rock stars. oks and captivating movies, she is sure to set the music scene ablaze with her sure-fire and aptly titled debut album, βRock Starrβ....And be warned βthis is just thBut there is the elite few who are born just that and new music name, Bucie, belongs to that select list. Loaded with the vocal capabilities.
The immensely talented young lady, who doesn't mince her words, says she calls herself a diva because she has all the qualities associated with that and βthere is no way you can miss that. I'm just in your face,β she says, as a matter of fact. She also calls herself a rock star because that's how she lives, βRock Stars are known as people who live their lives without care and to the fullest, with no regrets,β she says, βLife is a party and at the same time I've morals. I'm just living my life, I know what I want and how to get it, whatever it takes,β she warns. βI'm a go-getter and don't wait for things to happen. I make things happen.β Released by Demor Music (owned by Shana's Thandukwazi 'DEMOR' Sikhosana) the album is a potpourri of Soulful House Afro-House, ballads and Afro-soul classic material. And, like some of the greatest vocalists of our time, the story of her being signed to the label reads like a fairytale.
Demor, who was also a music lecturer at Central Joburg College, where Bucie was a bass guitar student, was looking for a female vocalist for a new project. A friend of hers recommended her to Demor and after a quick audition in one of the school's offices, Demor knew he had found more than just the voice he was looking for - βthis was a full package. Label owner and producer, Demor, says it was a combination of things that made him sign Bucie to his label. βIt was a combination of talent, amazing vocal ability and personality. From that I could just see a superstar,β he enthuses. βIt's rare to find an artist who encompasses all these qualities.β Most of these came in handy during the recording of the album.
Demor says that it was easy to do songs and she just did things as envisaged. βUnlike many artists, she would do a song as I felt it and we don't have to do lots of takes to get it right.β What also convinced the crew that they had a winning combination was the response that the first single βNgicel'indodaβ has been getting. The first time it was played to the masses was in a club, and the DJ in question couldn't believe the song was played for the first time, as the crowd went wild when it was played. βHe actually thought that we had played it before,β says Demor. βIt's very rare when you record a song, give it to a club DJ and the crowd just going crazy upon hearing it. I know we have a superstar,β he says excited. βThere is nothing like her in the market now.β Singing in SeTswana, isiXhosa, isiZulu and English, the album was done with the help of great music names such as Demor (RSA),Ralf Gum(Germany),Raw Artistic Soul(Germany,Black Coffee (RSA) who either produced, composed or feature in the album. The songs are mostly about βfun, friends, men, love and real life issues. βThis is music you can dance to, chill out to with your mom or your woman,β notes Bucie. Bucie also penned some of the catchy with metaphoric and ambiguous meaning material in the album. This she says gave her a chance to express how she feels share some of her thoughts. It's also about ownership of her music.
Born in Kimberly, Bucie, whose real name is Busisiwe Nqwiliso, grew up in Klerksdorp She started singing in the Sunday school choir at the tender age of seven and even then she was getting serious attention for her vocal talent. Her mom insists that this born talent was hitting some tight notes even when she was only three, and her voice demanded attention. And Bucie says that she has always known that she wanted to sing and be in the spotlight since then β be a rock starr. Bucie sees herself as a destiny's child as her life seems to be turning out the way she has always wanted.
In 2005, she did the Soul City soundtrack auditions and ended up singing and dancing in the Chicco produced group Maubani. And in 2006, she was in a June 16, youth project that was done by the highly respected, Duma kaNdlovu. On this project she had an opportunity to share the stage with top music acts such as Judith Sephuma, Tshepo Tshola, Sbongile Mngoma, Arthur Mafokate and Thembisile Mntaka. Somizi Mhlongo was the choreographer of this highly regarded project, which gave her valuable insight about some of the workings of the industry.
The name Bucie came about after a series of deliberations. Because the industry already has a number of Busi's, the plan was to come up with an exciting and powerful stage name that best described her.
The funked up Bucie was the perfect name that matched her rock star mentality. βMake no mistake,β she says, βI'm here to do great things. I'm not trying out.β True to that she has already been likened to the late Lebo Mathosa. Bucie has been said to be the perfect fit to close that gap left by the superstar and continue where she left off. βI'm not trying to replace her,β says Bucie. βIt's people who say I'm reminiscent of Lebo. That's what they see in me and that can only mean great things.β Bucie says having her own album is a dream come true. βI have always dream of doing a solo album and being a famous singer since I was a kid. Now it's happening and I'm gonna grab it with both hands,β she promises. βThis is the time and I know itβ. And just one listen and you will know it too.

Bucie's song Don't Leave is a song about the fear and insecurity of losing one's lover or partner. The lyrics "Dihlala dizi buza?" and "Ezibuza ungowami nah" are Zulu phrases that loosely translate to "Why are you always questioning me?" and "You're questioning me again, aren't you?" This highlights the singer's insecurity and paranoia about their partner's loyalty.
The following lines "Honey I know I go crazy sometimes, taking your phone, checking your messages" and "Honey I know I go crazy sometimes, causing the scene" reveal that the singer struggles with controlling their emotions and actions in the face of this fear. They acknowledge their behavior as irrational and impulsive. The final line "Andisa ali e boseku think when you leave me" translates to "Don't ever think of leaving me." This shows the depth of the singer's fear of abandonment.
In summary, Bucie's Don't Leave is a song about the fear of losing one's partner and the irrational behavior that can stem from that fear. The lyrics highlight the singer's insecurity and paranoia, as well as their struggle to control their emotions and maintain a healthy relationship.
