Prior to their eponymous 2001 album, each had made appearances on the other's solo recordings, but this disc marked their first official release as a duo. The album is described as more rock-based than their earlier solo traditional-folk recordings. The majority of the songs were penned by Julie Miller and rounded out by the duo's co-written "Dirty Water" and covers of songs by folk-rock icons Richard Thompson, Utah Phillips and Bob Dylan. The album was named "Album of the Year" at the first annual awards of the Americana Music Association.
Since then, the duo has released "Love Snuck Up" (2004) and "Written in Chalk" (2009).
Hush Sorrow
Buddy & Julie Miller Lyrics

Like photographs that your heart takes
You hold them so close & so down deep
To comfort you when your heart break
Hush, hush sorrow don't say my name
Please go your way without speaking
Hush, hush sorrow, you are to blame
The day that he left, that's the day that you came
And we left everything like he had it
Yeah, we left it like it was, but nothing's the same
Cause you're the one here with us now
The lyrics to Buddy & Julie Miller's song Hush Sorrow speak to the power of memories and how they provide comfort in times of heartbreak. Memories are like photographs that the heart takes and holds onto tightly, providing solace in difficult times. But the sorrow that comes with heartbreak cannot be ignored or silenced, even though it may be tempting to try. The chorus begs sorrow to stay quiet, but acknowledges that it is to blame for the pain that is being felt.
The verses of the song paint a picture of a life that has been disrupted by loss. The singer refers to "the day that he left," presumably a reference to a previous love or partner, and how sorrow came to take his place. While everything was left as it was when the previous love left, nothing is the same now that sorrow is present. The pain of the loss is still palpable, even as the memories of the love that was are held close.
Overall, the lyrics to Hush Sorrow are a poignant reminder of the power of memories in the face of heartbreak, but also the pain that comes with loss and the difficulty of moving on.
