Guy is known for his showmanship; for example, he plays with drumsticks and walks into the audience whilst playing, the latter being a gimmick he picked up from a local blues guitarist at an early age (joining or leaping into the audience has also long been common in both American popular and gospel music, as in the earlier work of Big Jay McNeely or the Dixie Hummingbirds).
Guy grew up in Louisiana where he learned to play guitar. In the early 1950s he began performing with bands in Baton Rouge. Soon after moving to Chicago in 1957, Guy fell under the influence of "Mighty" Muddy Waters. In 1958 he won a record contract with Artistic Records after beating the West Side guitarists Magic Sam and Otis Rush in a "Head Cutting Contest" at the Blue Flame Club. Soon afterwards he recorded for the Cobra label.
In the early 1960s, Guy was a session guitarist for Chess Records. He recorded on Junior Wells sessions for Delmark Records under the pseudonym Friendly Chap in 1965 and 1966. His career took off during a blues revival period in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and was sparked by Eric Clapton's request that Guy be part of the '24 nights' all-star blues guitar lineup at London's Royal Albert Hall and Guy's subsequent signing with Silvertone Records.

Everyday, everyday I have the blues
Because in worries and trouble, woman ah, baby, it's you I hate to lose
Whoa, nobody loves me, nobody seems to care, yeah
Oh, but nobody loves me, nobody seems to care
Because worries and trouble woman, baby you know I've had my share
I'm gonna pack my suitcase, I'm gonna move on down the line
Where there ain't nobody worried baby, and I know ain't nobody crying
Everyday, everyday, everyday, everyday, everyday
Everyday I have the blues
Because in worries and trouble, woman, baby, it's you I hate to lose
Everyday, everyday, everyday, everyday, everyday
Everyday I have the blues
Because in worries and trouble baby, babe it's you I hate to lose
Buddy Guy and Junior Wells's song "Every Day I Have The Blues" is a classic blues song about heartbreak and loss. The song speaks to the experience of feeling alone and unloved, with no one to turn to for comfort. The lyrics start with the line "Every day, every day I have the blues" which becomes a refrain throughout the song. The singers lament about their troubles and worries and how their lover is the cause of their pain. They feel like nobody loves them or cares about them, and they finally decide to leave and find a place where they can escape their troubles.
The song is a powerful expression of the deep emotions that come with heartbreak and loss. The lyrics are simple and direct, but they convey a depth of feeling that speaks to the human experience of pain and suffering. The singers' voices lend to the raw emotion of the song, with their rough and gravelly tones adding an extra layer of soul to the lyrics. The song tells the familiar story of love gone wrong, but it gives hope that there is a way to move on and find happiness again.
