Guy is known for his showmanship; for example, he plays with drumsticks and walks into the audience whilst playing, the latter being a gimmick he picked up from a local blues guitarist at an early age (joining or leaping into the audience has also long been common in both American popular and gospel music, as in the earlier work of Big Jay McNeely or the Dixie Hummingbirds).
Guy grew up in Louisiana where he learned to play guitar. In the early 1950s he began performing with bands in Baton Rouge. Soon after moving to Chicago in 1957, Guy fell under the influence of "Mighty" Muddy Waters. In 1958 he won a record contract with Artistic Records after beating the West Side guitarists Magic Sam and Otis Rush in a "Head Cutting Contest" at the Blue Flame Club. Soon afterwards he recorded for the Cobra label.
In the early 1960s, Guy was a session guitarist for Chess Records. He recorded on Junior Wells sessions for Delmark Records under the pseudonym Friendly Chap in 1965 and 1966. His career took off during a blues revival period in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and was sparked by Eric Clapton's request that Guy be part of the '24 nights' all-star blues guitar lineup at London's Royal Albert Hall and Guy's subsequent signing with Silvertone Records.

Wrapped around your bassman on lonely avenue
I hear you saying that you ain't never been with him
Well if it wasn't you baby, it must have been your evil twin
Now your evil twin, got your pretty little face
And your heart shaped booty, I would know it any place, hunnie
Now I still here you saying that you ain't never been with him
Yeah, you know baby, I met your whole damn family
Who's foolin who?
Your mama had three boys and one girl, that must mean you
And I still hear you sayin, hunnie, that you've never, never, never been with him
Well not listen to me one last time
If that wasn't you baby, then that must of have been your evil twin
The song "Evil Twin" by Buddy Guy is a blues-rock track that talks about a man who caught his partner cheating on him with someone else. At the beginning of the song, the singer sees someone who looks a lot like his partner wrapped around the bassman on lonely avenue. The partner denies being with the other person, but the singer doesn't believe them. Instead, he accuses them of being with their "evil twin," who has the same face and "heart-shaped booty." The singer had met the partner's whole family and knows the partner is lying when they deny being with the other person. The song ends with the singer urging the partner to tell the truth and admit that it was their "evil twin" who cheated on him.
The lyrics in this song are straightforward and easy to understand, with the singer accusing the partner of being dishonest and cheating on him. Buddy Guy's voice adds to the song's intensity and emotion, making the listener feel the pain and frustration the singer is going through. The song's structure is also worth mentioning, with a repetitive chorus that emphasizes the phrase "evil twin." The repetition adds to the song's catchy quality and makes it easy to sing along to.
