Buried Alive took the torch lit by vocalist Scott Vogel's former bands and ran with it full force, bringing their punishing metalcore to a national audience via incessant touring, one blistering full-length album, and a posthumous release of later-era demos. Similar to genre standard-bearers Hatebreed, Buried Alive's music was stomping, plodding, and heavy. It often picked up the pace a bit to get the mosh pit moving and always strengthened by Vogel's commanding vocal presence and rather bleak lyrical topics. Buried Alive formed in Buffalo after the dissolution of Vogel's former band, Despair, who had released records via Trustkill and Initial during their short but prolific career. Vogel, with a member of Snapcase, had also been a part of Slugfest, so getting Buried Alive noticed quickly in the hardcore scene was a no-brainer once they got moving with a two-song demo and smattering of live performances. Formed in 1998, the band -- whose final lineup also included guitarists Matt Roberts and Scott Sprigg, bassist Joe Orlando, and drummer Kevin Corcoran -- was quickly snatched up by Chicago's Victory imprint. They released a 7" single with them, Six Month Face, followed by a full-length album, The Death of Your Perfect World. Following a healthy amount of time on the road with bands like Skarhead and Madball, Buried Alive decided to call it a day shortly after completing demos for a second album, which were later compiled and released by Victory as Last Rites in 2000.
This band featured the now current singer of Terror, Scott Vogel.

Kiss of Death
Buried Alive Lyrics

Our blood flows the kiss of death.
Relentless disease as death tolls rise.
This virus breeds on human desire.
Whether you lust the needle of the flesh, you've sealed your fate, a fate of death.
Kiss of death.
Our blood flows the kiss of death.
An epidemic we feed and supply.
Kiss of death.
Now frail bodies are no longer immune.
No retribution, no cure to save you.
Consequence for our acts.
Kiss of death.
The lyrics of Buried Alive's song "Kiss of Death" depict the consequences of our actions as a society. The first verse describes how our callous acts have infected us with a deadly virus, and our blood has become the kiss of death for ourselves and others. The virus is relentless, and as the death tolls rise, it becomes clear that it has been bred by our own human desires. The second verse focuses on how we have sealed our own fate by indulging in our vices, such as drug use. The kiss of death is now flowing through our veins and we are helpless against it. The chorus emphasizes the severity of the situation, calling the virus the eliminator and taker of life. We are reminded that this epidemic is the result of our own actions, as we feed and supply it. The final line of the chorus, "kiss of death," acts as a haunting refrain that underscores the sense of doom that pervades the song. The third and final verse conveys a message of hopelessness - frail bodies are no longer immune, and there is no retribution or cure that can save us. The song ends on a bleak note, with the stark realization that there will be consequences for our actions.
