Anybody Out There?
Burlap To Cashmere Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sometimes while I'm driving
Trying to find my song
Looking for the answers
And where I do belong
Finally the children are
Bringin' me back home
(CHORUS)
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh
Is there anybody out there
Does anybody care
Are the people really there
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh
Is there anybody seeking
Does anybody see
Or are they deaf and dumb like me
Sometimes when I'm drivin'
Lookin' for my song
Lookin' for the answers
And where I do belong
Finally the children are
Bringin' me back home
(CHORUS)
Sometimes when I'm drivin'
Still lookin' for my song
Lookin' for the answers
And where I do belong
Finally sweet Jesus is
Bringin' me back home
(CHORUS)
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh
Is there anybody out there
Does anybody care
Are the people really there
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh
Is there anybody seeking

Does anybody see
That he died upon a tree

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Burlap to Cashmere's song Anybody Out There? appear to convey the feeling of being lost and searching for belonging, hope, and guidance. The driving metaphor represents the search for one's path in life, and the song's narrator is feeling lost and disconnected, unable to find answers to important questions. The repeated question, "Is there anybody out there?" suggests a sense of loneliness and a desire for connection with others. The plea "Does anybody care?" seems to suggest that the person feels isolated and unsupported, while the question "Are the people really there?" could express a perception of the world as hollow or empty.

However, towards the end of the song, the singer makes a shift in perspective. They sing, "Finally sweet Jesus is bringing me back home" and "That he died upon a tree," which evoke Christian imagery and suggest a newfound sense of connection and purpose. This could imply that the singer has found comfort in faith and that their sense of isolation has been lifted.

Overall, this song seems to express feelings of disillusionment, frustration, and uncertainty that many people encounter on their journey through life. However, it also hints at the possibility of finding hope and direction through faith.

I remember watching the trees go by in the back seat of my car as a kid with this playing, thinking deep thoughts (or whatever "deep thoughts" were to a kid of my age)

@abc784

I saw them live and I had never heard this song and when they played it, the part where they say "that He died up on a tree", they put some extra punch into it and the music suddenly stopped and there was dead silence, then everyone cheered but I just sort of stood there like a deer in headlights and finally I just said "oh wow, oh wow". I had never heard Diggy dime before either. Now that I really think about it, it was probably the best concert I've ever been to haha. Not just the music and atmosphere and skill and all that but the lyrics, oh those lyrics
