I've seen their sorry souls holding onto their threads
And what the fuck have they got to show for it?
Pain, suffering, regret
And there's a barb-wired lie wrapped around all their necks
They're punishing themselves, while they're paying for it
I'm tightening the line, now they're struggling for breath
Rise, aura confined and blindly we find
The birth of the obscene
Lies, through forgetful eyes
The death of the light
To reveal what was foreseen
Rise, aura confined and blindly we find
The birth of the obscene
Lies, through forgetful eyes
The death of the light
To reveal what was foreseen
I'm going in, I'm sick of swallowing the lies we've been fed
I've felt the chains of the condemned, the falsely led
What the fuck have we got to show for it?
Pain, suffering, regret
There's a barb-wired lie wrapped around all their necks
They're punishing themselves, while they're paying for it
I'm tightening the line, now they're struggling for breath
Consume, ignore, restrict, behead
Rise, aura confined and blindly we find
The birth of the obscene
Lies, through forgetful eyes
The death of the light
To reveal what was foreseen
Rise, aura confined and blindly we find
The birth of the obscene
Lies, through forgetful eyes
The death of the light
To reveal what was foreseen
Assimilate to annihilate
Freedom is not yours to take (not yours to take)
Stand alone, watch the sun eclipse
Drown your fear, last of the heretics, oh
Last of the heretics
Last of the heretics, oh, yeah
Rise, aura confined and blindly we find
The birth of the obscene
Lies, through forgetful eyes
The death of the light
To reveal what was foreseen
Rise, aura confined and blindly we find
The birth of the obscene
Lies, through forgetful eyes
The death of the light
To reveal what was foreseen
It's uncomfortable, a promise infernal
My sacrificial soul
It's uncomfortable, a promise infernal
My sacrificial soul
It's uncomfortable, a promise infernal
My sacrificial soul
It's uncomfortable, a promise infernal
My sacrificial soul, yeah
The lyrics of Bury Tomorrow's song "Heretic" explore themes of betrayal, self-punishment, and the struggle to break free from societal expectations. The first verse describes the perspective of someone who has witnessed the dawn through the eyes of the dead, implying a sense of detachment from the living world. This persona observes the struggle of people who cling to their threads, or their last hope, and wonders what they have to show for their efforts. The entire race seems to be caught in a barb-wired lie wrapped around their necks, punishing themselves while paying for it. The persona tightens the line, causing them to struggle for breath, and highlights the need to break free from enslavement.
The chorus brings the focus onto the cycle of life and death, describing how the birth of the obscene arises from blindly confined auras and forgetful eyes that lead to the death of the light. The metaphor suggests that people who lead their lives without questioning societal norms become part of the cycle of oppression, and the only way to break free is to reveal what was foreseen- to have insight and open one's eyes.
The second verse shifts to a more personal perspective, with the persona stating that they are sick of swallowing the lies propagated by society. The chains of the falsely led have burdened them with pain, suffering, and regret, making them question what they have to show for their life. They again describe the barb-wired lie wrapped around the necks of the people, highlighting their self-punishment. The persona tightens the line, once again emphasizing the need to break free. The chorus repeats the earlier themes of breaking free from societal constraints, and the bridge emphasizes the importance of not giving in to assimilation. Freedom is not something that can be taken away, and standing alone even when the sun eclipses is essential to being the last of the heretics.

Dans vocals are fucking immense here. Loz coming in and kicking ass.
Two of my top 3 bands coming together with the vocals here. Fucking insane collab.
Instrumentals are immense too. The song is weaker than I thought it could be though that’s me being an idiot lol
No complaints though this is a masterpiece of vocal harmonies and immense instrumentals.
So happy with this, honestly the excitement is hard to contain I’ve listened to this like 30 times in a row lmao.
That solo is so naughty damn.

Okay so Dani, how does your vocals keep getting better and better with every release? Same goes to the whole crew and their individual talents. And I, the fool, thought that Cannibal album was the peak Bury Tomorrow. This one was a masterpiece with such an amazing feature with Loz. You guys are raising the bar almost criminally high. Long live Bury Tomorrow. Long live the legends!

I thought Black Flame was the peak! I keep getting fooled! 😅😍

Well, Cannibal was indeed the peak. The last peak with Jason as a singer. Bury Tomorrow will be always one of my favourites, but it will never be the same
