Inspired by a real-life crush, the song "What I Go To School For" resulted in a popular music video starring supermodel Lorna Roberts. The parent album, charting at #2 in the UK, received middling critical reviews but became such a commercial success that it was multi-platinum certified by the RIAA. Charting placements in nations such as Austria, Ireland, and Japan spread word of the band, with their sound being compared to American pop punk acts such as Green Day and Sum 41.
November 2003 saw the release of Busted's second album, titled 'A Present For Everyone'. That album also charted at #2 in the UK. A live album, called 'A Ticket For Everyone', was released in November 2004, with the group facing inter-member tension.
The band split in January 2005 after Charlie decided to focus on his rock band Fightstar. Matt went on to release a solo album and has since become a television presenter with his wife. James founded the short-lived band Son Of Dork before focusing on songwriting.
The band reformed in 2013 without Charlie to make a supergroup with McFly to create McBusted
Busted annouced on 10 November 2015 that they are to reform as a trio, including Charlie, ten years after the band originally called it quits.

To the perfect day
Sun sinking low in the sky
We sat and watched all the dolphins
Swim in the bay
That crazy look in your eye
We ran in slow motion
Into the ocean
Holding your hand
But then it gets hazy
And I lose you and then that's when
I wake up scared to phone her
And realize I'm a loner in love
Yeah-eh-yeah
It's still the same old story
Tears of mornin' glory
No luck
That's the reason why my life sucks
Very much
Being a loner in love
The next day I ran into your current boyfriend
Told him what we did last night
Before my story had even got to the end
He challenged me to a fight
I ran in slow motion away from him
But he caught up to me
Kicked my teeth in
Now I got no chance 'cause I can't even grin
No nothing's changing
I wake up scared to phone her
And realize I'm a loner in love
Yeah-ye-yeah
It's still the same old story
Tears of mornin' glory
No luck
That's the reason why my life sucks
Very much
Being a loner in love
We ran in slow motion
Over the sand
Into the ocean
Holding your hand
But then it gets hazy
And I lose you and then that's when
I wake up scared to phone her
Realize I'm a loner in love (yeah yeah)
It's still the same old story
Tears of morning glory
No luck
That's the reason why my life sucks
Very much
Being a loner in love
Being a loner in love
You know that it sucks
The lyrics to Busted’s “Loner in Love” tell the story of a romantic encounter turned sour for the singer. The song begins with a description of a beautiful day spent watching dolphins swim in the bay with someone special. They run in slow motion over the sand and into the ocean while holding hands. However, things take a turn when “it gets hazy, and [he] lose[s]” the person he is with. The singer wakes up scared to phone her and realizes he is “a loner in love.”
The next day, he runs into her current boyfriend and tells him what they did the previous night. The boyfriend challenges him to a fight, and the singer runs away. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus emphasizing his loneliness and lack of luck in love.
The song’s lyrics discuss the universal themes of unrequited love, rejection, and heartbreak. The singer’s romantic encounter is fleeting and ultimately unfulfilling, and he is left with feelings of loneliness and inadequacy. The song’s catchy melody and upbeat tone mask the singer’s underlying sadness.
