Influenced by early U.S. punk and hardcore, vocalist Thom Bone, bassist/vocalist Bianca Butthole, guitarist Blare N. Bitch, bassist Sharon Needles and drummer Jerry Geronimo formed Butt Trumpet in L.A. 1993. The band's vulgar song material caused a Massachusetts town to consider banning Butt Trumpet's major-label debut, Primitive Enema, after a citizen heard her 12-year-old daughter listening to what the mother called "audio porn."

Butt Trumpet Lyrics

freeway overpass on Gauer just north of Yucca. I was standing there
minding my own business and this girl came up to me, and, well...
I thought she wanted me for my mind...
Shut up!
All I wanted from her was her phone number...
Shut up!
She was homeless
Shut up!
This isn't the way we rehearsed it...
Shut up!
Shut up, geek
The lyrics of Butt Trumpet's song "Shutup" is a quick story of a person standing underneath a freeway overpass on Gauer just north of Yucca. While standing there, a homeless girl approaches and the individual thinks that they are interested in them for their personality, but the girl is only interested in sharing her phone number. The song then repeats the phrase "Shutup" multiple times, indicating that the individual is disappointed, frustrated or embarrassed about the situation. The repetition of "Shutup" throughout the song alludes to the idea that the person wants someone to either stop talking, remain quiet or that they are unable to express their true feelings. The last line of "Shut up, geek" exacerbates the situation, giving the sense that the singer is annoyed, and perhaps even hostile to the listener.
