All By Myself
Céline Dion Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I was young
I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
Those days are gone

Livin' alone
I think of all the friends I've known
When I dial the telephone
Nobody's home

All by myself
Don't wanna be all by myself anymore

Hard to be sure
Sometimes I feel so insecure
And love's so distant and obscure
Remains the cure

All by myself
Don't wanna be all by myself anymore

All by myself
Don't wanna live all by myself anymore

When I was young
I never needed anyone
Making love was just for fun
Those days are gone

All by myself
Don't wanna be all by myself anymore

All by myself
Don't wanna live
Oh, ohoho

Don't wanna live by myself, by myself anymore!

By myself anymore
Ohohoho!

All by myself
Don't wanna live

I never, never, never needed anyone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to CĂ©line Dion's "All by Myself" are a reflection on the universal human need for companionship and the pain that comes with loneliness. The song starts with the singer acknowledging that when they were young, they never needed anyone and that making love was just for fun. However, as they have grown older, they have come to realize that they do need someone and that love is not something to be taken lightly. The singer then reflects on the many friends that they have known and the fact that when they dial the telephone, nobody is home. This is an indication of the singer's isolation and the fact that they are feeling very much alone.

The chorus of the song, "All by myself, don't wanna be all by myself anymore" is a plaintive cry for companionship. The singer is saying that they are tired of being alone and that they want to find someone who they can be with. The second verse of the song explores the idea that love is not always easy and that it can be hard to find security in a relationship. However, despite this difficulty, love remains the cure for the singer's loneliness. In the end, the singer restates their desire for companionship and says that they never needed anyone, but they do now.

@BILALTHEQUEEN

That last note,at first she could not make it,in the recording studio it was so hard that the guy who composed the arrangement told her "you know Whitney is just next recording her album,if you want to I can call her" and she pulled it off...voilaaa

@Nofiih

It is actually not true. CĂ©line did not think she could hit the note, but the guy, David Foster, was sure she could and then said to her: "Don't worry, Whitney is in the next room, so if you.." and it gave CĂ©line the will and the courage to try, and then she hit the note perfectly in the first try!!

@mohamedsayed9432
