Well,The kick and some hi hats are just a 909,the metal hi hats are from the Korg wavestation,the big snare is a sample of Carlos Peron's album 'Nothing is true' . The bass is a Yamaha TX 81 Z ,the strings are also Wavestation but layered with a Waldorf, The main sound is a sampled Hammond on the EMU emulator III but I transmorphed it with a vox sample of my sister doing an aah sound on the mic.Every sound is tweaked to some extent.Good times,not too much gear but making the best of it. One of the finest, most evergreen techno tracks of all time. Energy and joy all the way.

It's remarkable for the for the fact that it has elements of techno, trance and what would soon be called jungle (surely a major influence as hardcore turned to jungle - listen to that low bass rumble in the breakdown... mmmmmm!!!)

Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Years ago I contacted CJ Bolland. I asked him what synth he used to get the sound of the beginning riff. He told me it was a Korg (wave station) if I remember correctly. I owned two wave stations throughout my career and never could exactly replicate that sound. Close, but not exact. At the time I spoke with CJ, he asked if I wanted to remix this song. He was putting together a remix compilation album of his tracks. I declined on the remix. I felt that this was one of those tracks that you just don't touch. Its perfect the way it is.

Back in 1992 everything uptempo was either house or techno (breakbeat becoming an accepted adjective just a couple of years before this). This track was firmly considered techno as with almost all the R&S catalog. Lovely stuff. Back when people were actually doing something new and interesting with their equipment.

1992 was the year of the techno music peak it seems, looking back to that time from today. There were many people, including me, who were just discovering this new style of music that was still mostly unknown by the main stream and underground at least for a bit more time. Was just grad HS in 92...and lucky to be near WZBC Newton MA college radio. This station played and still does, really far out music of all kinds. The show that delivered the best of this music from both the UK Amsterdam etc and the US Detroit etc was on that station every week. Until about 1993...just the first few bars of this tune, tho nvr hrd b4, just grabbed me and brought me back to the feeling of that time. Cheers to all who hear and feel positive sounds old and new.

@Will The Champion of buses 32 Erm no the heyday of techno was almost 10 years earlier. In the UK techno had already disappeared and split into multiple sub-genres by 1993. What you are probably referring to is crappy commercial music. The late 90s was the era of BigBeat (Propellerheads, Bentley Rhythm Ace etc.) and ambient house (Ministry of Sound etc.)

Amazing Lovely. This so reminds of the Le Camargue. How did he do it? He seems to have made a photocopy in a machine which makes sounds of the colours of thefauna, the sky , the air, the smells, and the pink flamingoes.
