Clean My Wounds
C.O.C.: Corrosion of Conformity Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I see the world through bloodshot eyes
Streets filled with blood from distant lies.
The dogs of war never compromise,
No real time for rearranging.

"Help me Jesus, help me clean my wounds"
He said he cannot heal that kind.
Bleeding soul becomes a bitter mind.
He said it happens every time (Knock it down)
And that's how the story goes (Knock it down)
In the land of a thousand no's (Knock it down)
I'm all over you in time my mind is changing.
Knock it down

Black on black gives me a heart attack
And the silence makes it deadly.
Some choose to kill with simple will.
I've seen them fall fast and steady.

Twist of fate won't give me a break
And myself, I'm slow and tired.
I've got to rise with these bloodshot eyes
But I keep falling when I'm higher.

"Help me Jesus, help me clean my wounds"
He said he cannot heal that kind.
Bleeding soul becomes a bitter mind.
He said it happens every time (Knock it down)
And that's how the story goes (Knock it down)
In the land of a thousand no's (Knock it down)

We are bleeding sins and our sins are always fadin'
Oh fadin', oh fadin', oh fadin'

Oh, knock it down, knock it down
Oh, knock it down, knock it down

Oh, knock it down, knock it down
Oh, knock it down

Been listening to COC since the '80's, when they were a hardcore band and had the cool spiked mask logo.
They were a very different band back then - they were standing shoulder to shoulder with bands like Dirty Rotten Imbeciles (DRI), Agnostic Front and Cro Mags in the hardcore scene, and then in the late '80's that scene just kinda died when bands like Slayer got big, Black Metal showed up in a big way, and I guess there weren't enough skinheads to maintain it, even in NYC, where I'm from.
There was always a dumb rivalry between skinheads and metalheads. Don't ask. It was dumb.
I thought COC was done, and as far as I can tell they disappeared for a while. But years later, when I saw this video on some cable channel, imagine my surprise.
This is a real good record. The guitar tone is amazing.
COC is one of a handful of bands I've never seen live, and it kills me.
I'm sure they pump out a wall of that rich, deep guitar sound, and this dude's vocals are top notch as well.
So underrated. Hell, even DRI went metal on their 'Crossover' LP, and they went on to be a pretty popular band.

Every time I come across this band, I question how the hell didn't they make it bigger than they are. Such an awesome live band to further the why.

@markevans4002

Their rise was starting just as grunge was blowing up and that genre kind of overshadowed other hard rock and metal bands.

@glideconsulting6797

they were bad ass live saw them several times

@carpitecture

@Mark Evans they were cast in the alt rock underground scene, as grunge was starting up, they could easily be mixed in with that genre, thats when I first heard them. Back then, I was heavily in NYCs underground music scene, didn't care for labels and labeling things, it was all about hearing new and different music.
