Under The Bridge
C. Magnuss Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm sorry to say 'honey'
People never change
Keep praying to the mirror
But you'll always be the same
It's just a matter of time before everyone knows
The person on the outside is nothing but and empty shell
It always has been
And always will
Because you wouldn't let me close enough to save you from yourself
You'll never know what you want
Till' it's taken from you
The perfect practiced apathy
You wear it like a noose
And when only darkness remains
What will your lies cling to?
I guess that I should have seen
You wanted everything except me
So I'll let the water flow so deep
Under this broken bridge
Apologies are worthless
People never change
And do you still pray to that mirror?
Oh you're so vain
Your time is up
And not one promise was kept
And you still wear your apathy
Like a noose around your neck
I guess no one has the time
To save you from yourself
I couldn't catch you when you fell
You made me your enemy
Water still flows so deep
Under this broken bridge
You are on the wrong side
Fading from my sight
What will you stand for
Or do you belong on your knees
What will you stand for?
You're still
On your fucking
Knees
What will you die for?
Because to me you're already deceased
What will you stand for?
Because you fell for me

What will you die for?
Just a slave to something you could never be

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of C. Magnuss's "Under the Bridge" reflect themes of disappointment, realization, and ultimately letting go of a toxic relationship. The song begins with the singer expressing regret and a sense of resignation, recognizing that people rarely change despite their efforts. The use of the term 'honey' adds a tone of familiarity and tenderness, possibly indicating a past closeness in the relationship being addressed. The image of praying to the mirror suggests a superficial pursuit of self-improvement that ultimately fails to bring about any real change.

The lyrics convey a sense of helplessness and frustration at being unable to save the other person from themselves. The refrain "You'll never know what you want till' it's taken from you" speaks to the idea of only truly valuing something once it's lost. The repeated imagery of a noose, symbolizing self-destructive behavior and emotional suffocation, reinforces the idea of being trapped in a cycle of unhealthy patterns.

As the song progresses, the tone becomes more accusatory, with the singer realizing that their presence was not truly desired by the other person. Despite their efforts to be there and offer support, they were pushed away and made to feel like the enemy. The imagery of water flowing under a broken bridge symbolizes the emotional distance and irreparable damage in the relationship, highlighting the futility of trying to mend what is fundamentally broken.

The final stanzas of the song escalate in intensity, with the singer questioning the other person's values and integrity. The repeated questioning of what they will stand and die for underscores a sense of betrayal and disillusionment. The stark imagery of being on one's knees suggests a position of weakness and submission, contrasting with the defiant stance of the singer. The song ends on a powerful note, with the declaration that the other person is already deceased in the singer's eyes, metaphorically emphasizing the emotional death of the relationship. Overall, "Under the Bridge" conveys a poignant narrative of realizing the true nature of a relationship, facing betrayal and disappointment, and ultimately letting go of someone who could never reciprocate genuine love and support.

This Arch in Mallorca is massive, I've been there, the video doesn't do justice. You can't understand how high that is!! A fall on the top part can be deadly or really hurt you. Truly astonishing climb, only a true legend like Chris could accomplish this. Greetings from Barcelona!

@arminb.9214

yeah, the arch is really intimidating. Over ten years ago I visitied the place (I was watching King Lines like every other day back then :-D) and I swam over and just got to the right base of the arch. Even calmer waters day it took me a lot of courage, there is a crazy underwater-rockworld there. Super impressive and beautiful place, but totally rad to climb this hard and this high without a rope :-D
