Clamm was formed around 2019 by guitarist/vocalist Jack Summers and drummer Miles Harding. The two were already active in various Melbourne bands, but wanted to explore a heavier sound. The trio was rounded out by bassist Luke Scott, and began playing shows. Clamm first self-released their debut album Beseech Me on cassette in 2020. Scott played on the album, but left Australia soon after to pursue studies in Poland. He was replaced by Maisie Everett of the Belair Lip Bombs and the band soldiered on. In April of 2021, Beseech Me was given a proper, wide-reaching release on Tin Angel Records sub-label Meat Machine.

I see see see see see
And now I don't know what to do
I think I need to break through through
I know it's coming for me
I see see see see see
I've never been a winner
Bummer
It's a bummer
It's a dark power
Don't think about it
Liar liar liar
Liar liar liar
I know it's coming for me
I see see see see see
Its black and it's a dog
And I'm in its black smog smog
Bummer
It's a bummer
Quick stop it with the laser punch
Have you seen my face
Liar liar liar
With the razor bite
Have you seen its head
Man, I'm feeling depressed
Liar liar liar
Liar liar liar
The lyrics of CLAMM’s song “Liar” describes a sense of impending doom that the artist cannot escape. Throughout the song, the repetition of the phrase “I know it’s coming for me” emphasizes the inevitability of the situation. The artist is terrified and lost, wondering what they can do to escape, and admitting that they have never been a winner. The “dark power” that is referenced suggests a force that is beyond the artist’s control.
The second half of the song goes on to describe the “black dog” that is chasing the artist. This metaphor for depression is further emphasized by the “black smog” that the artist is struggling to see through. The lyric “quick stop it with the laser punch” is a desperate plea for a quick fix or solution, but it is not clear what “it” refers to. The constant repetition of “liar liar liar” could be the artist confronting their own deception, or perhaps the deceit they feel is being directed towards them. The final lines of the song seem to suggest that the artist is overwhelmed and defeated by whatever force is after them.
Overall, the lyrics of “Liar” convey a sense of hopelessness and lack of control in the face of a dark and ominous force. The repeated use of visual metaphors, such as the “black dog” and “black smog,” helps to paint a haunting picture of the artist’s emotional state.

This video, this sound, this track, this band, are kind of reaching perfection. Perfect mix of rough and spontaneous rock, full of authentic energy. Thanks for this jewel, artists behind and in front of the camera.
