Clamm was formed around 2019 by guitarist/vocalist Jack Summers and drummer Miles Harding. The two were already active in various Melbourne bands, but wanted to explore a heavier sound. The trio was rounded out by bassist Luke Scott, and began playing shows. Clamm first self-released their debut album Beseech Me on cassette in 2020. Scott played on the album, but left Australia soon after to pursue studies in Poland. He was replaced by Maisie Everett of the Belair Lip Bombs and the band soldiered on. In April of 2021, Beseech Me was given a proper, wide-reaching release on Tin Angel Records sub-label Meat Machine.

I don't want it
I can feel it all around and I don't want it
Now I've done it
Now I've done it
I can feel it bubbling up and I don't want it
Say it
Say it
I'm trying to find the words to say something
Say it
Say it
I'm trying to find the words to say something say it
Say it, say it, say it, sing it
I shut my eyes
But it's right on my back with me
And what I see, it's the symphony
And so it goes right back
And so it goes right back
And what I see
It's the symphony
For years it's come,
It's right on my back with me
And what I see, the symphony
I shut my eyes
But Its right on my back with me
And what I see, its the symphony
The lyrics to CLAMM's song "Symphony" convey a sense of internal conflict and struggle. The repeated refrain of "I can feel it, I don't want it" suggests a strong emotional intensity that the singer is grappling with. The lyrics express a desire to escape or avoid something that is overwhelming and all-encompassing. This feeling is further emphasized in the lines "Now I've done it, I can feel it bubbling up and I don't want it." It suggests that the singer has caused or initiated this emotional turmoil, but now regrets it.
The verses focus on the singer's attempt to find the right words to convey their emotions. They express a frustration and desperation to articulate their feelings, as shown in the repetition of "I'm trying to find the words to say something, say it, say it..." This repetition highlights the internal struggle to be heard and understood.
The lines "I shut my eyes but it's right on my back with me" suggests that the emotional burden the singer faces cannot simply be ignored or avoided. It follows them relentlessly, almost haunting them. The symphony mentioned in the lyrics serves as a metaphor for this emotional turmoil, a cacophony of conflicting emotions and thoughts that the singer is constantly confronted with.
Ultimately, the lyrics of "Symphony" explore the internal battle between wanting to avoid and escape overwhelming emotions, while simultaneously acknowledging that they cannot be ignored or pushed away. It captures the intricate and complex nature of the human experience, where conflicting emotions and thoughts can coexist.
