Groves grew up in a family of seven kids in a tiny town just over seven square miles near the Southern border of the state. At the age of seven she heard Frank Sinatra on the radio and told her mom "I want to write things down that I have to say, and I want to sing them real loud so everyone can hear me."
Cady graduated high school early, and then went to culinary school when she was 16. She was in a few casual music projects, but had problem finding other people who wanted to make music their life, and not just a hobby. In the search for such a person she came to southwestern Oklahoma where she signed up for college at SWOSU.
Groves' first independent EP was 2009's A Month of Sundays. Another EP, The Life of a Pirate, followed in 2010. In May 2015, Groves self-released the single "Crying Game". Groves released her EP Dreams for free download in October 2015.
Someone Like You

That you found a girl and you're married now
I heard that your dreams came true
Guess she gave you things I didn't give you
Old, friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back
Or hide from the light
Well, I'd hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded that for me it isn't over
Never mind I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I begged, I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead
You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised in a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days
Well, I'd hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away
I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded that for me it isn't over
Never mind I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I begged, I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead
Nothing compares
No worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes, they are memories made
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?
I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now!
Never mind I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I begged, I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love
But it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead
The lyrics tell a story of a woman who has unexpectedly run into an ex-lover who has moved on and started a new life with someone else. The singer seems to have come to terms with the end of their relationship but is experiencing some residual emotions upon seeing their ex again. The first verse expresses both surprise and a hint of jealousy, as the singer has learned that their former partner has fulfilled some of their dreams with someone else. The second verse is more reflective, acknowledging the passage of time, their shared history, and the bittersweet nature of how things have ended. The chorus represents a resolution of sorts, as the singer acknowledges that the relationship is truly over and wishes the best for their ex, but at the same time affirms that they will keep searching for love elsewhere.
The song's structure is relatively simple, with a steady build-up throughout the first two verses, culminating in the chorus. The chorus itself is a repeated, almost mantra-like refrain that reinforces the central idea of moving forward, while the bridge takes a step back and breaks down the idea of memories and how they shape our perception of love.
