Those Oldies But Goodies
Caeser & The Romans Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The songs of the past bring back memories of you
I always remember the first night we met
The songs they were playing I never will forget
I always will treasure them so close to my heart
They always will haunt me although we're apart
Each time that I hear them a tear's bound to fall
Those oldies but goodies reminds me of you
The songs of the past bring back memories of you
Forever they will haunt me but what can I do?
Those oldies but goodies reminds me of you
(Oldies but goodies reminds me of you)
Yes, dear, they are playin' our songs.
And they will always remain our songs
And each time you hear them, I hope you, too, will cherish the wonderful
Memories that our love once knew.
For these songs are just a symbol of the
Love that I had for you.
Those oldies but goodies reminds me of you
The songs of the past bring back memories of you
Forever they will haunt me but what can I do?
Those oldies but goodies reminds me of you
(Oldies but goodies reminds me of you)
In the song "Those Oldies But Goodies" by Caeser & The Romans, the lyrics reflect on the power of music to evoke memories and emotions associated with a past love. The reference to "oldies but goodies" implies that the songs from the past hold a special place in the singer's heart, reminding them specifically of their ex-partner.
The opening line, "Those oldies but goodies reminds me of you," directly states that listening to the old songs brings back memories of the person they once loved. The songs themselves have become intertwined with the memories of their time together, creating a strong association between the two. This connection is reinforced in the following line, emphasizing that the songs "bring back memories" of the person.
The lyrics then shift to a specific moment in their relationship, recalling the first night they met. The songs that were playing that night left a lasting impression, as expressed in the line, "The songs they were playing I never will forget." This highlights the power of music to create lasting memories and associations with significant events in our lives.
The following lines express the emotional impact these songs have on the singer. They state that the songs, although they bring forth cherished memories, also carry a sense of sadness. Even though they are apart from their former love, the songs continue to haunt them, triggering tears. This implies that the memories evoked by the songs are bittersweet, as they remind the singer of a love now lost.
The final verse addresses the presence of these songs in both the singer's life and the life of their ex-partner. It suggests that the songs remain significant to both of them and hope that their former love also cherishes the memories connected to these songs. The lyrics convey the sentiment that the songs are symbolic not only of the love the singer had for their ex-partner but also of the shared experiences they had together.
Overall, "Those Oldies But Goodies" explores the transformative power of music in eliciting memories and emotions related to a past love. The lyrics capture a mixture of nostalgia, love, and longing, emphasizing the enduring impact that certain songs can have on our lives, even after a relationship has ended.

My brother Nick Curinga and his friend Paul Politti were high school students when they wrote this song in 1961. They are both still alive. I was only 6 years old. I remember my brother and LIttle Cesar and the Romans getting ready for Bandstand. The song was running neck and neck on KHJ and KRLA with a song called Im Sorry. Great memories.
