The Beloved And The Hatred
Caliban Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where is your
Where is your
Where is your love

The Smaller the keys, bigger the locks
closure of dorms, for the hatred
pick a key and watch!
sesame open, just meaningless words

Tell me, where's your love
Tell me, where your heart
don't look back to that start
where's your love.

A daring mixture of shelter and temptation
the one who dares will gain the blame
lines web into my heat
to tear it slightly apart

Where is your love
Where is your heart

Tell me, where's your love
Tell me, where your heart
don't look back to that start
where's your love

Where is your love?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Caliban's song The Beloved and The Hatred present a theme that is common in their music - a reflection on human nature and the dichotomy between love and hate. The song opens with a repetition of the question "Where is your love?" which sets the tone for the rest of the song. The first verse alludes to the idea that people often lock their hearts away, shutting out love due to the pain that comes with it. The "smaller the keys, bigger the locks" implies that we often build barriers around our hearts that are difficult to break down. The "closure of dorms for the hatred" suggests that in our pursuit to protect ourselves from pain, we end up cultivating hatred rather than allowing love to flourish. The use of "sesame open, just meaningless words" is a metaphor to imply that people often say they love someone, but their actions suggest otherwise.

The second verse carries forward the theme of temptation and the consequences of daring to put down our walls. The lyric "the one who dares will gain the blame" highlights the social norms and expectations that encourage us to play it safe and not take chances with our hearts. The final two lines of the verse "lines web into my heat to tear it slightly apart" are poignant, as they suggest that even when we give in to love, there is still a risk of heartbreak, and that it takes strength to weather the aftermath.

Overall, The Beloved and The Hatred is a song that encourages introspection and self-reflection. It asks the listener to examine their own hearts, to question where their love lies, and to consider whether they are allowing themselves to love freely, or whether they are keeping themselves bound up in hatred or fear.

You guys got me through the worst time in my life around 2005 with the opposite from within. "Stand up". I did and dusted myself off and I'm still here in 2021. THANK YOU For putting heart and soul into your music which didn't go unnoticed.

@stheno13

There is nothing wrong with his voice, I think he is a very talented vocalist, and his voice keeps getting better. This is one of the BEST metalcore songs around, if not one of the best, the best.

@demonhunterlive

right man i feel the chorus too the same way insane track ,melo singing at its best but i have one complain , i wish they took more time on their album giving more tracks like these instead of the fillers i found anyways caliban rocks

@stheno13

They actually didn't. Emo (as you would call it) is all about heart break, depression and wanting to die, however if you bothered to listen to The Awakening it is all positive and about life, and finding love. The only reason the albums before were about heart break is because Andy (lead singer) was in love with his ex girlfriend, and couldn't get over her, but that changed. Thank you very much. Oh and Caliban fans, join their street team, its awesome.

@UHSAdzz

i want caliban in the UK now.. amazing band
