Memory
Call Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Only yesterday you said we'll never part
But now you leave me with a broken heart
Oh won't you please come back come back to me my love
Bring back the memories of our dreams

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Call's song Memory reflect the feelings of a person who is missing their loved one after a heartbreak. The opening line, "Malilimutan ko pa ba aking mahal" (Can I still forget my love), sets the tone for the whole song. The singer of the song is reminiscing about happier times spent with their partner, "Ang maligayang araw nating nagdaan" (The happy days we had). The memories they have of their relationship are bittersweet because they are the only thing left behind, "Kaya wala nang nalabi sa dibdib ko/ Kundi ang alaala ng pag-ibig mo" (Nothing is left in my heart/ But the memories of our love).

The song's melody and lyrics evoke a sense of longing and sadness. The chorus, "Habang ako'y nag-iisang nalulumbay/ Ang alaala ay ikaw" (While I'm alone and feeling sad/ Memories of you are all that's left), is particularly poignant. It highlights the fact that the memories of the relationship are all the singer has left to hold on to. Throughout the song, the singer expresses their hope that their loved one will return and bring back the happiness they once shared, "Asahan mong hindi ka na mawawala/ Dito sa aking gunita" (Know that you will never be gone/ From my memory).

Overall, Call's song Memory is a powerful and emotive portrayal of heartbreak and the longing for lost love. The lyrics convey the deep emotions that come with a broken heart, and the music amplifies these emotions. The song is a moving testament to the power of memories and the lasting impact of lost love.

John LaStrada
well said, echoed my feelings, exactly.
has the privlege to perform this song as an interpretive pantomime, before a bunch of prison inmates as part of a prison ministry.
this song reminds me of the Lord, and my relationship with my dad, I miss him so much.
"....you gave the poet words to speak,
you gave me love before I asked...
in my memory the stories I could tell....
in my memory I remember you still."
no songs move me as deeply as this song does.
I cry every time I here it.
r.i.p. dear michael been, I know it sounds selfish but you left us too soon, way too soon.

In my memory
I can still see that face
In my memory
I can still hear the voice
I remember talkin' with you
The stories I could tell
In my memory, I remember you still
You gave the poet words to speak
you were the sun to warm my days
You put us in each others hands
You gave me love before I asked
In my memory
I can still see that face
In my memory
I can still hear the voice
I remember talkin' with you
The stories I could tell
In my memory, I remember you still
I feel my heart will surely break
I've taken all that I can take
You were the light for me to see
You were the sky that covered me
In my memory
I can still see that face
In my memory
I can still hear the voice
I remember talkin' with you
For hours by the well
In my memory, I remember you still
In my memory I can still see the eyes
In my memory
I can still feel your touch
I remember talkin' with you
The stories I could tell
In my memory, I remember you still

And so many people have never heard this song. Don't even know it exists. It's probably one of the best songs ever written because anyone in the world could relate to it. But then, most people listen to music with their feet -- not their heads and hearts. Michael Been's vocals on this track are flawless. One of the greats. The lyrics are moving and the words have the right melody. There isn't a band performing today that have what The Call had. You'd have to go to someone like Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits or John Prine for such depth.
