Song For The Youth
Callalily Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I never meant to break the rules
I was such a fool
I never knew right and wrong
That's why I'm singing this song to you
Chorus:
Raise your hand, don't be afraid
We are the light of today
Scream your name
Don't hesitate
'Cause this is our night
And we are the light of today
I was too blind to see that the young ones
Are looking up to me, my apologies
I said never knew right and wrong
That's why I'm singing this song to you
To all of you
(Repeat Chorus)
Adlib
Coda:
Raise your hands... raise your hands...
Raise your hands... raise your hands...
Adlib
(Repeat Coda)
The song "Song for the Youth" by Callalily speaks about a realization, repentance, and redemption. The song's protagonist, in the first verse, admits to making a mistake that broke the rules, and how he/she feels foolish for not knowing right from wrong. But instead of just sulking over the past, he/she decides to sing a song to the youth to impart some valuable insights. In the chorus, the singer calls on everybody to take action and raise their hands, and not hesitate, as it is their time to shine.
The next verse shows how the singer gained self-awareness and discovered that the younger ones are looking up to him/her as a role model. He/she expresses regret over his/her past actions and continues to sing the same song to impart much-needed guidance to everyone. The song concludes with a repetition of the chorus and coda, indicating a call to everyone to follow and lead in their own way.
