The lyrics to Calvin Russell's song "Soldier" speak to the desire for a partner who is strong, supportive and unafraid to stand up for the one they love. The song touches on themes of power dynamics and the desire for a partner who is not only physically strong but also street smart and able to provide financially. The use of military-like terminology in the lyrics, such as "soldier" and "sargent" adds to the theme of strength and power. The lyrics also reference specific geographic locations, such as BK and the east coast, which add a sense of place and cultural context.
The lyrics speak to the importance of being drawn to someone based on their character rather than their material possessions or status. There is a clear preference for someone who may not have much but who is willing to work hard and take care of their partner. There is also a sense that being from the country can be appealing to someone who may come from the city, as there is a perceived authenticity and genuineness that comes with being from a rural area.
Overall, the song "Soldier" is an ode to strength, loyalty, and the power of love. It speaks to the desire for a partner who is a true partner, able to provide support and stability in a world that can often feel uncertain.
