The track was recorded in Nashville with producer Matt McClure (Lee Brice, Dylan Scott, Kellie Pickler) and is quoted “a smash hit the second I heard it” from Music Row reporter, Greg Almond.
Early in 2017, Cox released a music video for his track, “Just Me” which will be on his self-titled EP this October. “Just Me” was featured on various country music platforms paved the way for his music video for "Lie" which released late August. Cox is leaving his mark on the charts with "Lie" rapidly climbing into the top 80's within his first month.
In addition to touring around the south east, the NC native was most recently performing with Carnival Cruise Lines but “happy to be on land for a while”. Stay tuned for what’s next for this exciting up and comer, Canaan Cox.

And you of all people know it’s a small town,
Even if it’s just us that’s a crowd
For how everything went down.
I gotta get away from this house
Imma grab my keys and head out
I pray to to God that I don’t see you walk into this bar I’m about to burn down
So stay home even if you don’t want to
Cause I can’t stand seeing the sight of you
It’s my turn to get turnt on the weekend, drunk at 2am, and you don’t know where I’m sleeping
Cause it’s a party in this 2 light town, now that you’re not around baby I can get down down down on my own
So maybe you should just stay home
Stay Home stay home
maybe you should stay home stay home
Stay home stay home
Maybe you should
Why don’t you just
It’s not that I’m not over you
It’s just I’m not ready to see if that’s true
Cause if I went out tonight, saw you with another guy, I’d probably lose my mind.
So can’t you call a friend, have a girls night in, cause i don’t wanna have to go through all of that again,
waking up in the early AM, sneaking out, full of regret like we did last weekend
Maybe you should
Why don’t you just
Almost made it to last call
without seeing you walk into this bar
But look at that, here you are.
So go home even if you don’t want to
Cause you know we can’t be in the same room
It’s my turn to get turnt on the weekend drunk at 2 AM and you don't know where I'm sleeping
It’s a party in this 2 light now, but every time you’re around, baby I can down down down on my own
So maybe you should stay home.
The lyrics to Canaan Cox's song "Stay Home" depict someone who is trying to escape the pain and memories associated with a past relationship. The singer is going out for the night, but they emphasize how it's a small town and even if they're alone, it feels like a crowd because of the memories. They express a desire to distance themselves from the situation, hoping not to run into their ex at the bar. The title "Stay Home" is a plea to their ex-partner to stay away and not be where they are, as it is difficult for the singer to see them and be reminded of the past.
The singer takes ownership of their own plans and emotions, expressing the need to get away from their house and have a good time on their own terms. They mention the desire to party, get drunk, and enjoy themselves without the burden of the past relationship. There is a sense of liberation and independence, as the singer suggests that without their ex around, they can truly let loose and have fun.
The lyrics also reveal that the singer is not fully over their ex, as they admit they are not ready to see them with someone else. There is a fear of the emotional turmoil it may bring, as it could potentially push them over the edge, leading to a loss of control or sanity. The singer suggests that their ex should stay home and have a girls night in, avoiding any potential encounters.
In the final verse, the singer almost makes it through the night without seeing their ex, but unexpectedly, they walk into the same bar. This moment emphasizes the difficulty of truly escaping the past and how it can unexpectedly resurface. The singer then reiterates that their ex should go home because they know being in the same room will be a challenge. They emphasize their own independence and ability to have a good time without the ex's presence, concluding by suggesting that maybe their ex should stay home.
Overall, "Stay Home" portrays the internal struggle of wanting to move on while still feeling the impact of a past relationship. It highlights the desire for freedom, independence, and the intention to create new experiences without being held back by memories and reminders of the past.

Tonight I’m going out
I am going out tonight
And you of all people know it’s a small town,
You, more than anyone else, know that this town is small
Even if it’s just us that’s a crowd
Even if it's just the two of us, it feels crowded
For how everything went down.
Considering everything that happened
I gotta get away from this house
I need to leave this house
Imma grab my keys and head out
I will take my keys and leave
I pray to to God that I don’t see you walk into this bar I’m about to burn down
I hope to God that I don't see you entering the bar that I'm going to destroy
So stay home even if you don’t want to
Please stay home even if you don't want to
Cause I can’t stand seeing the sight of you
Because I can't bear to see you
It’s my turn to get turnt on the weekend, drunk at 2am,
Now it's my turn to have a wild time on the weekend, getting drunk at 2am
