Disappear
Candlebard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Look at this city of blackstone and wood
With rubble and dust in the places we stood
Tore up the pavement for duels and plays
Now watch as the color fades
Look at this city with stakes through its past
It′s bleeding out, but you still think it can last
Well I have accepted what you'll never know
We have to let it go

The seasons are shifting, my dear
Time to float on the winds of another year
I feel the ocean waves you cannot hear
Rolling on ′til they disappear
Disappear...

Look at your leader, the poster for good
See he cannot hold you
Like he knows he should
Carries the world on his back, standing tall
Fearing one day, he'll drop them all
Oh, he burns from the inside
When he sees himself sink
All the weights and pulleys
All the shiny bullies
Who he tells what to think
Oh, I feel their broken hands
Start to squeeze out my soul
But I cannot give up control

The seasons are shifting, my dear
See the smoke on the wind
As it's floating near
I fan the roaring flames closer to here
Rolling on ′til they disappear
My memories are melting to foam (Disappear)
Watch me ruin another place I called home (Disappear)
On your face, the light dies (Ah)
As you gaze up in fear
And I watch it all
Disappear
Disappear...

Disappear...
Disappear... (Ah, ah, ah)

Overall Meaning

Candlebard's song "Disappear" talks about the impermanence of things and how everything changes with time. The song is a social commentary on how society and cities change over time, losing their original identity and values. In the first verse, the lyrics describe a city that has lost its color and character due to the passage of time, new constructions, and demolitions. The city is now bleeding out because of its past, and the singer has accepted that it's time to let it go. The lyrics suggest that the past and the present are transient and that we must embrace change.

The second verse talks about a leader who tries to carry the weight of the world on his back but is struggling to hold it all together. He is surrounded by people who tell him what to think and do, and the singer says that he can feel their broken hands starting to squeeze out his soul. Despite all this, the singer refuses to give up control and is determined to forge ahead.

The chorus talks about how the seasons are shifting, and it's time to move on. The singer talks about feeling the ocean waves that others cannot hear, rolling on until they disappear. The song suggests that change is inevitable, and we must keep moving forward, accepting the transience of life.

I think this song applies to more than just Wilbur's insanity

"this city of blackstone and wood, with rubble and dust in the places we stood" hits harder now, because while old L'Manburg had blackstone walls, new L'Manburg was primarily wood, and this song can apply to both versions, with both Wilbur and Tubbo, the two different versions that both got blown up.

"tore up the pavement for duels and plays, now watch as the color fades" First it was the election and exile of Will and Tommy (duels and plays, color fades), and then it was November 16th and Tommy's exile

"look at this city with takes through it's past" it had stakes, but now it just has more.

"it's bleeding out but you still think it can last. well I have accepted what you'll never know; we have to let it go" Is Wilbur and L'Manburg, but can also be Tubbo with the disks.

"the seasons are shifting, my dear, time to float on the winds of another year" The passing of time and things ending; Wilbur with L'Manburg, and then Tubbo exiling Tommy

"i feel the ocean waves you cannot hear rolling on till they disappear" This could be Wilbur saying L'manburg's moving away figuratively, but also literally, Tommy heaing the waves at exile, but not Tubbo because h never visited

"Look at your leader the poster for good, but he can not hold you like he knows he should. Carries the world on his back standing tall, fearing one day he'll drop them all" Wilbur and Schlatt this time having problems, But also Tubbo and Dream, and then exiling Tommy because he was "a liability"

"oh he burns from the inside when he sees himself sink" Wilbur's insanity, but Tubbo getting more and more tired without Tommy

"all the weights and pulleys all the shiny bullies who he tells what to think" Schlatt having people under his control, but also Dream subtly manipulating everyone

"oh I feel their broken hands start to reach for my soul, but I cannot give up control" Wilbur and insanity, but also Tubbo being scared of Dream taking over his country, he has to exile Tommy to keep control

"the seasons are shifting my dear, see the smoke on the wind as it's floating near" Wilbur in exile thinking about blowing up Manburg, L'Manburg being blown up for the last time

"I fan the roaring flames closer to here, rolling on till they disappear" Wilbur and insanity and blowing up Manburg, but also can be Dream manipulating Tommy in exile

"my memories are melting to foam" Wilbur thinks everyone is against him, Dream messes with Tommy's head so he thinks the same thing

"Watch me ruin another place I called home, on your face the light dies as you gaze up in fear" applies to Wilbur, but also Tubbo exiling Tommy

"and I watch it all disappear" nothing stays on the DreamSMP, it all comes and goes

Am I looking into this too much?

This is not the song of a mad man. This is the song of a man who lost it all. This is the song of a broken man with no option but to deny the defeat yet still sinking because of it. And I love this song

@dweewooweewoo2658

This is the song of a man who lost his country, and his sanity.

@endercake3403

this song is about letting go anything you thought you could believe in, its about someone who was betrayed and backstabbed, its about the cold blade of the real world. A world where the dog eats the dog, a world where everyone is only on their own in the end. but thatw only my opinion, think about that song however you like.

@Sophie-vb1hk

I didn't think I'd hear something where corrupted Wilbur is so soft... I love it and low-key want to cry
