THERE IS NO TEARS TO EXPRESS MY PAIN
MECHANIC HEART WITHOUT FEELINGS
TIME IS CORRODING MY USELESS MIND
EYES OF GLASS SEARCHING LIGHT IN THE DARK
ENCLOSURED WAITING MY END
AND IS JUST IT THAT I AM
THERE'S NO DREAMS IN MY ELECTRONIC BRAIN
THERE'S NO LOVE TO SUFFER IN VAIN
RUSTED CARCASS WITHOUT WEAKNESS
IN MY SKULL, IRON INSTEAD OF BONES
CREATED TO BE THE NEW CENTURY MAN
OBSOLETE, THE FUTURE IS MY PAST
FRUSTRATED ARTIFICIAL GENESIS
DAMNED TO BE JUST A EXPERIENCE
The lyrics to Canyon.'s song "Giant" convey a sense of detachment, loneliness and ultimately, resignation. The opening lines "there is no blood running in my veins, there is no tears to express my pain" set the tone for the rest of the song. The singer is devoid of human emotions and feelings, with a "mechanic heart without feelings" and an "electronic brain" that doesn't dream or love. The use of the word "useless" to describe the singer's mind suggests that this state of detachment is seen as a negative thing.
The second verse continues this theme of detachment and disillusionment, with the singer describing themselves as a "rusted carcass without weakness", and referencing their "iron" skull. The reference to being "created to be the new century man" implies that the singer is some kind of android or other advanced technology, created to be the ultimate expression of human ingenuity. However, despite this apparent superiority, the singer is plagued by feelings of obsolescence and frustration, and is ultimately left feeling "damned to be just a experience".
Overall, the lyrics to "Giant" explore the potential consequences of our increasing reliance on technology and the ways in which it can separate us from our emotions and our essential humanity. The use of first person narration gives the song a personal and introspective feel, while the stark and minimalistic language underscores the feelings of loneliness and emptiness that the singer experiences.

@Lee's Channel Fantastic to read this. I'm 6'7" and a bit heavier, but worried mostly about the frame size. I've been hearing great things about Canyon for us taller riders.

@fleshrocker Well, it's an endurance bike, not a race bike. The giant will really start to shine when you are doing 100+ km rides. I Have one and it's very comfortable beside that awful saddle. But a saddle is an easy part to switch. Also, being in canada, the canyon is much more expansive. The Trek domane sl6 was another option but it was 400$ more and had aluminum wheels compared to carbon for the defy. Bangs for the bucks is hard to beat. But I would not buy a tcr to race, I would go to a more "race oriented" company.

Defy all the way.

Great review as always. I recently sold my 2015 Defy Advanced Pro 0 Di2 and bought the 2020 Defy Advanced Pro 1 with Sram Force AXS and upgraded to SLR0 wheels. Brilliant bike and don't think I'll be selling this one for a long time. Giant value for money is, in my opinion, unbeatable.

Can the canyon fit 32c tyres?

Love the review. I bought the Defy Adv Pro 2 2020 as my second only ever road bike purchase. My old 531 road bike has lasted 25 years and well over 150k km of terrible Scottish roads, winters and a few crashes, so some big shoes to fill. I was initially disappointed at a kind of numb ride feeling from it compared to my tight and springy old bike but I put in some big rides in Covid lockdown and fell in love with the thing. Whilst it doesn't set the heather on fire in any category as 'best in the world' (climbing, descending or whatever) it is a very very good bike at just about everything. It rides fast, is comfortable (changed the saddle to a Selle Italia SLR Superflow), and, saddle aside, is a very considered and well designed all-round machine. It also looks great, in my opinion - here's to the next 25 years...

It seems criminal to not mention the eyelets for fenders on the Defy — I'm a huge Canyon fan but the fender compatibility of the Defy is what ultimately made me get the Defy over the Endurance.

Warren, you've had my trust for *years*, and having just received my 2021 iteration of this bike -- largely based on your review(s) -- it's abundantly clear that trust is well deserved.
