Borrowing 2 french and 3 english songs from her latest release Blanc Mercredi, and 6 brand new english tracks, Shiver features Caracol's unique vocal harmonies and a tasteful blend of folk, indie-pop and retro-soul. Caracol surrounded herself with her usual dream team; produced by Sebastien Blais-Montpetit (ADISQ Producer of the year 2011 and DJ Champion guitarist) and accompanied by top notch musicians, she delivers an album of great musicality, using authentic vintage instruments to keep the purity of her signature style.
This third solo album marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Caracol, who has enjoyed a successful French musical career. Her first solo album "L'arbre aux parfums", received several top prizes for both show and album from Radio-Canada, Bourse Rideau, Prix Miroir, Adisq, as well as nominations at the Junos and Canadian Folk music awards. This follows a hugely successful album and #1 single "etrange" with world-pop duo DobaCaracol.
She has toured relentlessly throughout Europe and North America with artists such as Serena Ryder, Joseph Arthur, hitting events & festivals such as NACA, SXSW, CMW, NXNE, Osheaga, Rifflandia and several major Canadian folk festivals.
In june 2011, she was invited to play with The Bangles at the Twilight series on the Santa Monica Pier in California. Since its october 2011 release, Blanc Mercredi has placed in many "best albums of 2011" lists. Media response has been very positive and Caracol has been invited to appear on several tv shows such as Star Academie and Studio 12. She was also recently nominated for a Genie Award in the category "Best Original Song" for her song "Quelque part" in the recent blockbuster Quebec film Starbuck. Caracol now embarks on a 3 month tour of Canada, with Amelia Curran and Vincent Vallieres, before heading off to Europe and Australia in the fall and winter.
Good Reasons
Caracol Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All the reasons are good to be free
We swore we'd see it coming, but we didn't
Pretended for a moment it was nothing at all
Such a beautiful crime is committed
Found love the wrong way, what a feeling
So kiss me like you never did
Make sure it'll never end
All the reasons are good to be free
Let's run away, baby
All the reasons are good to be free
Let's run away now
Run, run away, baby
We swore we wouldn't hurt any feelings
We swore we wouldn't lie so we ran away
Things happen anyway so let's face it
Love was in the folds and we stole it
Yeah, we stole it
So kiss me like you never did
Hold me like you'll never leave
Make sure it'll never end
Kiss me like you never did
Hold me like you'll never leave
Make sure it'll never end
Make sure it'll never end
Make sure it'll never end
And kiss me like you never did
All the reasons are good to be free
Run, run away, baby
All the reasons are good to be free
Let's run away now
Run, run away
Run, run away, baby
The lyrics of Caracol's song "Good Reasons" are about true love, its complexity, and its cost, and about the choices that we make in the name of love, even when they are not always the right ones. The song, throughout its two verses, underlines that "All the reasons are good to be free," suggesting that love can be a factor that can either bind us or set us free. The singer admits that she and her lover tried to ignore love's arrival or do things differently, but it was all in vain, and they found love the wrong way. Despite this, the singer still believes that all the reasons to be free are good enough to make love triumph.
The chorus repeats that all the reasons are good to be free and treads a more romantic path, with the call to "kiss me like you never did," and "Hold me like you'll never leave," a desperate request to make the fleeting moment of love last. The repetition of these lines, and the insistence that they make sure "it'll never end." points to the fleeting nature of love and the effort to make it last. The refrain of "run, run away, baby" reinforces this concept of the escapism of love and the idea that it is worth running away for it, even though it can end up being a beautiful crime.
Overall, "Good Reasons" is a song about the desire to escape from everything, and the search for freedom through love, which can offer liberation but can also create its chains. The lyrics encourage living in the moment, in the name of love, despite the consequences that it may bring.
