Fantasmas
Carajo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The song Fantasmas by Argentine metal band Carajo delves into the human experience of dissatisfaction, pain, and longing for fulfillment. The opening lines show the disappointment of another day passing with unfulfilled aspirations and the arrival of another life into the world undesired. The lyrics reveal a particular sense of loss, implying the existence of some wound and its association with the passing of time. The lines "El tiempo se va veloz, fugaz, sin explicación dar" (Time passes swiftly, suddenly, without giving an explanation) connote a sense of urgency and the frivolity of life.
The second verse of the song brings forth a dichotomy between "the world and the truth" and how they are eternal rivals fighting over the same space in the heart. The contrast between these two elements is an example of existential angst, a common theme of heavy metal music. The line "Fantasmas, fantasmas," sung repeatedly throughout the song, refers to the ghosts that haunt us, symbolizing past mistakes, regrets, and unresolved issues that continue to affect us. The lines "Para ocultar el dolor, nos aferramos a la ilusión" (To hide the pain, we cling to illusions) suggest that humans tend to hide behind unrealistic dreams instead of taking responsibility for reality. Overall, the song evokes a feeling of turmoil, sometimes hidden, sometimes openly exposed.
