Restless
Carcosa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One by one you let the dominoes fall
Single file, bring them in
Sought out to reform them all

“These savages will have to learn this the hard way
Pray to our god or find yourselves in a mass grave

Get in line! Get in Line! Get in Line!
Meet my radicalized vision of mankind!
I am the shepherd who brought the sheep to slaughter
I am a wolf disguised as a martyr

I am the shepherd who brought the sheep to slaughter
I am a wolf disguised as a martyr

Born into pestilence
I see you all as lesser than
Based on your beliefs and pigmentation of your skin

You’re all the devil’s children
And god will be thy name
I’m here to rid you of your sins
I’ll set your world ablaze”

Ashes rain…

Down on their nameless graves
Never to be seen again
Where the fuck are they now!?

Tears will fall where cathedrals still remain
We’re still finding them
We won’t stop finding them

But we remain complacent in these archaic ways
Our vision is clouded, ingrained into our society
Innocent youth, buried six feet deep
We close our blind eyes and slowly fall asleep while

They lay restlessly

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Carcosa's song "Restless" talk about the destructive and dangerous nature of radicalization and prejudice. The first verse portrays a person or group enticing others to join their cause, with the intention of reforming or changing them. However, the method is violent and oppressive, as they force others to conform to their radicalized vision of humanity.

In the chorus, the person proclaiming to be a shepherd is actually a wolf in disguise, using the guise of martyrdom to manipulate and exploit others. This indicates the deceptive nature of those who claim to be leaders but have ulterior motives.

The second verse highlights the bigotry and discrimination that this person exhibits. They view others as inferior based on their beliefs or the color of their skin. In their eyes, everyone who does not conform to their perspective is deemed the devil's children, and they believe they have the authority to rid the world of their perceived sins by setting it on fire.

The bridge speaks of the consequences of such destructive beliefs and actions. The ashes that rain down symbolize the destruction and devastation left in the wake of the shepherd's influence. The nameless graves represent the countless lives lost and forgotten as a result of this radicalization.

The final lines express a sense of frustration and disbelief. Despite these acts of violence and the loss of innocent lives, society remains complacent and unwilling to confront and eradicate these archaic ways of thinking. The reference to closing our blind eyes and falling asleep suggests a collective indifference and ignorance towards the suffering caused by such radical ideologies.

Overall, "Restless" serves as a commentary on the dangerous power of radicalization, the destructive nature of prejudice, and the need for society to confront and resist these ideologies to create a more inclusive and accepting world.

As a white Canadian, I am truly sorry for what my ancestors did to your ancestors.

I'm doing a little digging into this story. I can't find any info on any corpses being removed from the mass grave. Why is that do you know? I find that a bit odd. Do you have any links or resources that can lead me to the bodies being exhumed?

I didn't expect to cry when I went to play this. Thank you guys for bringing this to light for those unaware and to make those aware, uncomfortable.

I am an indigenous descendant of the Pipil tribe. I am not Canadian but the atrocities described in this song happened all over the continent. People believe these horrible things only happened long ago but sadly they still happen today. Such discrimination has affected my parents and I so much. I am so happy to here this song, it brings light to an almost forgotten history which should never be forgotten

I have shared this and will continue to share it. As an Australian who has seen the damage done to our First Nations people and the half ass attempts made by the government to try and make it better. This song means a lot. Love you guys
