The Wedding
Card Michael Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Chorus
Lord of light, oh, come to this wedding
Take the doubt and darkness away
Turn the water of lifeless living
To the wine of gladness we pray

Mother Mary's gently requesting
That you might do whatever you can
Though she may be impatient she loves you
And so she asks what she can't understand

Chorus

So amidst the laughter and feasting

There sits Jesus full with the fun
He has made them wine because He is longing
For a wedding that's yet to come

Chorus

Overall Meaning

The song "The Wedding" by Card Michael talks about a wedding where Jesus turns water into wine, as described in the Bible. The song's chorus is a prayer to the Lord of Light, asking Him to take away doubt and darkness and turn lifeless living into the wine of gladness. The lyrics also mention Mother Mary's request to Jesus to help the wedding by performing a miracle, even though she may not fully comprehend His powers.

In the second verse, the lyrics describe Jesus enjoying the celebration along with the people. He makes wine as a symbol of His desire for a future wedding, which is believed to be the marriage between Jesus and His church. The song not only talks about a specific historical event, but also the ultimate wedding between Jesus and His followers.

The overall theme of the song is about faith, love, and the power of God's miracles. It encourages listeners to trust in God's ability to turn darkness into light and to rejoice in the knowledge of a future wedding with Jesus.

The interchange that took place between Jesus and his mother at the wedding in Cana concerning the depleted wine reveals the depth of their intimate relationship. Mary was not just any other mother. We know that she was blessed of all women. And, Jesus' life was unlike any other's. Mary knew from conception about Jesus - who he was. And, Jesus knew what he had to do to carry out his Father's will. Their conversation carried a sense of mission, in cooperation together: Mary's faith in her son, and Jesus' devotion to his mother.

Thanks, Carla. The first time I read this passage 41 years ago, I had been puzzled by Jesus' initial reply to Mary. With the advent of internet, now, we have so much knowledge at our fingertips. It is amazing we can compare the different translations of the Bible with the click of a mouse unlike before when we would have to carry the heavy books and turn their pages one version after another.

Is there a way to get permission to use this video?

@JeremyAgape

You can go ahead and use it. You are welcome. Nevertheless, I believe it is appropriate to greet in some way, maybe with a simple "Hello," etc. I believe it is common courtesy to use words like "may I" and "please" when making a request, don't you?. 😇😀💌🙏

Interesting question... Which hippie? Thank you for watching and commenting💖💝

I like the song, but not the video, Jesus did not turn water to wine because of Mary's request, as evidenced by His response to her, and this video adds something that the Bible does not say to try to change the meaning
