This Town
Carl Perkins; Johnny Cash Lyrics

This Town

This town is not for me
I won't be staying around
This town is hard and cold
I'm not happy in this town
I'll pick up my heart and I'll go
Where to I don't care or know
Don't matter where I'll be found
As long as I leave this town
This town wants me to go
It ain't where I was bound
This town don't need me here
I don't need this town

To morrow who'll remember my name
To morrow who'll remember I came

Don't care which road I'll go down
As long as it's a way from this town

Overall Meaning

In "This Town," Johnny Cash sings about his dislike for a particular town and his desire to leave it. He describes the town as "hard and cold" and says that he's "not happy" there. He plans to pick up his heart and go anywhere else because he doesn't care where he ends up, as long as he leaves this town. He believes the town doesn't need him, and he doesn't need the town. In the final verse, he wonders who will remember him and his name once he leaves.

The lyrics of "This Town" suggest an existential crisis that Johnny Cash may have been experiencing at the time. He didn't feel at home in this particular town and believed that there was no place for him there. The song reflects his desire to find a purpose or a place where he feels he belongs. The repetition of the phrase "this town" emphasizes his feeling of detachment and disinterest in the town he's in.

Never understood why Elvis Presley became a living God and Carl Perkins remains nearly unknown by most people. Carl Perkins was probably the best Rock& n' Roll star who ever lived !!!!

@joshdunstan

Ive been reading johnny cashs biography and he talks about how just as carl perkins was becoming a big name and really rising up he had a terrible car accident which unfortunately derailed him from superstardom like elvis
