Get Ready
Carol Hitchcock Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Feel fine, hold on
Look out baby, 'cos here I come

Get ready, 'cos here I come
Get ready, 'cos here I come

I never met a boy who makes me feel the way
That you do
It's alright
I never romanced who makes my dreams real
I see that you do, it's unsafe

Repeat

I'm gonna bring you new a love that's true
So get ready, so get ready
I'm gonna try to make you love me, too
So get ready, so get ready, 'cos here I come
Get ready, 'cos here I come
(I'm on my way)
Get ready, 'cos here I come

You wanna play hide and seek we'd loved
That made me remind you, it's alright
The love and you're gonna miss in the time
That takes to find you
It's unsafe

So feel good in day, feel good in dawn
Look out baby, 'cos here I come

Repeat

I'm gonna try to make you love me, too
So get ready, so get ready, 'cos here I come
Get ready, 'cos here I come
(I'm on my way)
Get ready, 'cos here I come

One of my friends who want you, too
I understand it, it's alright
I hope I'll get to do before she do the way I planned it
It's unsafe

Repeat

Overall Meaning

In Carol Hitchcock's song "Get Ready," the singer is telling her lover to prepare because she is coming. She starts by saying, "Feel fine, hold on, look out baby 'cos here I come." This implies that she is excited and ready to take action. She reminds her lover of how he makes her feel differently from other boys she has met, and that he makes her dreams come true. She then assures him that she is going to bring him a new love that’s true and that both will be trying to make each other love one another.

The verses in the song suggest that the singer is confident that her love will be reciprocated. She promises to try her best to make the lover love her too. The chorus repeats twice in the song, giving emphasis on the message of getting ready because she is coming. The bridge talks about one of her friends also being interested and hoping to make a move before she does.

Overall, the song's message is about taking positive steps towards a relationship and being confident that love will be reciprocated.

She was amazing. How dare they not do an album with her.

Totally agree

@Giovannni

Exactly what i was thinking!!! I can imagine some really cool sophisticated dance music with her not very poppy, a sound like "Mel&Kim meets Grace Jones".

@Oysterblade84

Apparently it was her record label failing to negotiate a further collaboration with Stock/Aitken/ Waterman at the time for a follow up hit. It resulted in Carol quickly being forgotten in the music industry.

Why was this superb cover not a bigger hit in the uk pop charts is anyone's guess. I got ready and bought this single in 1987. 😢 . I wish there was a whole album of Carol Hitchcocks we can get hold off. Thank you for your contribution too pop music 🎶 ❤🎉❤ xxx

Brilliant Hi-NRG cover from 1987. Should have made the Top 40 in the U.K. A forgotten gem, unless you are a S.A.W fan of course!

@mikekaraoke

Yea shame that, least it was a hit in Australia/New Zealand!

@notandnowavailableonyoutub2855

@@mikekaraoke Thankful for small miracles. Such a great track too. Least they value their own singers in NZ/AUS. Some great artists from that part of the world....
