The Swedish lyrics to Carola's song Terpsichore tell the story of a woman who takes the train to the city. In the crowded train, she finds a spot where she can stand and blend into the grayness of the surroundings. As the music can be heard from somewhere, she sees an opportunity to dance and dream herself away from the noise of the city. She envisions herself on a stage under the spotlight, with the crowd cheering for her.
The song's title refers to Terpsichore, the Greek goddess of dance and chorus. By evoking her name, the lyrics celebrate the power of dance to transcend everyday life and offer a moment of escape. As the woman dances, she loses herself in the rhythm and becomes one with the music. She is no longer aware of the people around her, who seem to be standing still while she dances with abandon. The lyrics suggest that the woman's dance is an act of rebellion against the boring routine of daily life. She turns a mundane place like a train station into a stage, and her performance becomes the highlight of the evening.
