Caroline Sunshine’s song Roam is a musical representation of the wanderlust spirit that lives in some of us. The song opens with the line “I hear a wind, whistling air, whispering in my ear” which is a poetic introduction to the idea of being drawn towards exploration and the unknown. In the following lines, the singer mentions “Boy Mercury shooting through every degree” which could be interpreted as a reference to the Greek god of travel, Hermes (also known as Mercury in Roman mythology) and the speed with which he could travel. The line “Oh girl dancing down those dirty and dusty trails” is reminiscent of an image of someone who is carefree and adventurous, hopping from one place to another without a care in the world.
