Decisions
Carry your ghost Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've said that this means everything to me.
We're ready to drop everything to make this dream a reality.
Some say I should want much more, but I have heard it all before.
"Just give up.
We won't support this.
You have too much to live for.
Whatever happened to the boy I knew before?"
YOU BREAK MY FUCKING HEART.

(Daniel McWhorter of Gideon, formerly of The Advocate)
[I have given everything up for this.
You say you know right from wrong.
Take a look at yourself.
You have no right to criticize the life I lead.]

So fuck you all, I'm the same person that you knew.
My decisions have nothing to do with you.

So with that said I will follow my dreams until the end.
I never knew that this would hurt so much.
I've given everything up for this.
If it's the last thing that I ever do, I'll see this to the end.
I'll leave this town and never look back.

This is our decision.

(Daniel McWhorter of Gideon, formerly of The Advocate)

For so long I have lived in fear of myself and my decisions.
But no longer will I let my fears overwhelm me.

Overall Meaning

The song "Decisions" by Carry your ghost is a defiant anthem about pursuing one's dreams, regardless of the opinions and criticisms of others. The lyrics suggest that the singer has sacrificed much for their passion, and has faced pushback from those who do not understand or support their goals. Despite this, the singer remains resolute and unapologetic about their choices, declaring that they will continue to follow their dreams to the end. The song also touches on the idea of self-doubt and fear, but ultimately comes down on the side of determination and self-belief.

One interpretation of the song is that it speaks to the struggles that many artists or creatives face in pursuing their passion, particularly in the face of societal pressure to conform or prioritize more practical pursuits. The lyrics suggest that following one's dreams can be a lonely and difficult road, but one that is ultimately worth it for those who are willing to put in the work and sacrifice. The line "I've given everything up for this" speaks to the idea that true passion requires significant commitment, and that there may be moments of doubt or heartbreak along the way.
