Cartel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Somewhat like today
We will find each other there
We will find each other there
And somewhat like the month we first met
We can't forget the way I loved you
And we can not mend what damage has been done
No, we can not mend what damage is done now
But then we shall come home and
Become the best ones we could have been
Oh the best we could have been
Oh the best we could have been, oh
The lyrics of Cartel's song, "The Best," revolves around the idea of a perfect day where the two lovers find each other. The singer reminisces about their first meeting, and how they cannot forget how they loved each other. However, the singer acknowledges that they cannot pretend to go back to the way things were, as they have gone too far and caused too much damage. Despite that, they still believe that they can become the best versions of themselves and be the best they could have been.
The song captures the bittersweet feeling of wanting to forget the past and start anew while still harboring feelings for someone. It shows that people can move forward while still holding onto the memories they shared with someone they once loved. The singer wants to reconcile and start fresh, but at the same time, they acknowledge that it's impossible to revive what they once had. Despite that, they still keep the hope of one day becoming the best versions of themselves.
Overall, the song portrays a wistful look at lost love and the possibilities of new beginnings. It touches on themes like growth, nostalgia, and hope. The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has gone through a breakup or navigated the complicated terrain of love.
