Beginning violin lessons at the age of 8, Stratton followed quickly with cello lessons at 10, the piano at 11, and guitar at 16. It was through the piano that Stratton discovered a passion for writing and performing songs. After moving to Los Angeles in 1995, Casey signed with Magic Records. Work then began on the recordings that would eventually become his first full-length release, The Giver and the Grave Digger, which was released in 1996.
In 1997, after deciding not to renew his contract with Magic Records, Stratton began his first self-produced album, Lily Sleeps.
In the summer of 2000 Stratton moved to Chicago where he began a nearly two year hiatus from the record industry. He immersed himself in writing and recorded an independent album called The Winter Children. Many of these tracks would be re-recorded later and included on his Sony release Standing at the Edge.
Stratton's 6th studio album, "DIVIDE", was released in October 2005 on Stratton's independent label, Sleeping Pill Music. His next album, The Crossing, was released in April 2007. This was followed by Orbit, digitally released on February 5, 2008.
Memories and Photographs was released in September 2009, followed by A Winter Moon, an album of holiday music, in December 2009. Casey's next project, Myth & Stars, largely based on Greek Mythology, was released on September 21, 2010.
You Move Away
Casey Stratton Lyrics

Full of pain
Your guard was down
You felt ashamed
Cried yourself to sleep
To escape
From that day
From all the pain
You turn away
I don't know what to say
Something inside is frozen
You move away
I don't know what to say
Looked to the sky and prayed
I'd never seen
You so distraught
Your eyes looked lost
You felt alone
I can't understand
What you've been through
But I will try
To get to you
With the morning light
You felt some hope
You saw yourself
As truly changed
The shadow remains
But you can cope
I know your strength
I feel your soul
In Casey Stratton's song You Move Away, the lyrics depict someone who has come to the singer in a state of emotional pain, feeling vulnerable and ashamed. The person has cried themselves to sleep in order to escape the pain they have been feeling. The singer is left feeling powerless and unsure of what to say or do to help this person as they constantly turn away. The person is depicted as frozen in their own emotional turmoil, wanting to move away from their pain but feeling unable to.
The second verse reveals the extent of the person's emotional distress and their sense of isolation as they struggle with their pain. The singer empathizes with what this person has been through, recognizing that they cannot fully understand their experience but expressing a desire to help and support them. As the morning light comes, there is a sense that this person is beginning to feel a glimmer of hope and sees themselves as capable of change despite the pain and shadows that remain.
The beautiful melody of the song captures the sense of longing and empathy expressed in the lyrics, while the repeated refrain of "I don't know what to say" emphasizes the singer's sense of powerlessness in the face of this person's emotional struggles. Overall, the song is a poignant and heartfelt expression of the desire to help and support someone who is experiencing emotional pain.
