The Man
Cast Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is a man's world,
This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing,
Nothing without a woman or a girl

You see, man made the cars to take us over the road
Man made the trains to carry heavy loads
Man made electric light to take us out of the dark
Man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark

This is a man's, a man's, a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

Man thinks about a little baby girls and a baby boys
Man makes them happy 'cause man makes them toys
And after man has made everything, everything he can
Do you know that man makes money to buy from other man?

This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing,
Nothing without a woman or a girl

He's lost in the wilderness

He's lost in bitterness
He's lost, lost somewhere in this, in loneliness

Overall Meaning

The song "The Man" by Cast is a powerful reflection on the struggles of living in a corporate world. The song begins with the metaphor of a "wheeling machine," conveying the idea of endless, grinding work. The singer feels trapped between the lines of different companies, forced to subsist on "Company's food." The lyrics suggest a claustrophobic feeling of being controlled by the demands of corporate life, reduced to a dog on a leash, constantly chasing their own tail. The reference to suffering fair implies that the singer is not alone in their experience, but nonetheless yearns for escape.

Amidst this bleak landscape, the song suggests a glimmer of hope. The singer dreams of a day when they can live without corporate servitude, free to bask in "sun and fresh air" all day long. There is a sense of rebellion in the lyrics, both in terms of the desire for freedom and the implied drug use in lines like "so I get high." The repeated phrase "Save your reply" conveys a sense of defiance towards authority, refusing to engage in discussion or justification.

The song's chorus effectively captures the essence of the singer's struggles, conveying the sense of being "kept on a chain" and feeling "restrained" every time they try to break free. The use of the word "affair" in this context implies a sense of betrayal, as if the singer has been let down by the promises of modern life.

Line by Line Meaning

Like a wheeling machine Industry grinds I've been walking between Companys lines But I say to myself One day real soon That I wont have to chew Company's food
I feel like I am just a small part of a big system, working endlessly in the industry. I have been following the rules set by my company for so long that I feel like a machine. However, I know that one day, I will break free from this cycle and have my own say. I am looking forward to the day I do not have to follow the company's rules anymore.

Company rules my day
I have to follow the company's rules and regulations every day.

Like a dog on a lead told when to fetch I've been chasing my tail From one day to the next It's a canine disease Suffering Fair But I know that I'll find Sun and Fresh air, all day
I feel like a dog, told what to do and where to go. I am constantly chasing my own tail every day, from one task to another. It is fair to say that this is becoming a habit that I am finding hard to break. However, I know that one day, I will be free from this and finally enjoy the perfect life with fresh air and sunshine.

When I get up Early in the morning And I get home Early in the Evening So I get High Only for the feeling Save your reply
I wake up early every day and return home late in the evening, making it hard for me to enjoy myself. To forget about my troubles, I get high, which makes me feel good. I don't want anyone to respond or stop me as I feel like a burden is finally lifted off of me.

Like a dog on a lead I'm told when to fetch I've been chasing my tail From one day to the next It's a canine disease Suffering Fair But I know that I'll find Sun and Fresh Air all day
Life feels like I am being led around like a dog with a leash on, and I have to listen to others. I am constantly working with no rest, which feels like a disease. However, I know someday that I will finally find freedom and be able to breathe in the fresh air.

When I get up Early in the morning And I get home Early in the evening So I get High Only for the feeling Save your reply Save your reply and fly
My days consist of me waking up early, working hard, and coming home late. To escape these problems, I get high to make myself feel better. I don't want anyone to respond, and I just want to leave and forget everything that has been holding me back.

It's a feeling I get Walking down the street I recognise the effect In everyone I meet It's a dog gone affair Keep me on a chain Every time I run free I always feel restrained
I can't help but feel that I am not the only one suffering from this cycle of life. This feeling is shared by everyone I meet, and they all feel trapped and constricted like a dog on a leash. Even when we get a chance to be free, there is always something holding us back.

[Verse 1: Brittany, Jude&Ryan]
My friends say that I'm crazy
(You crazy girl)
Cause I give you my love
(OoOouu!)
But you my little sexy baby
You do it to me good

[Pre-Chorus: Jude, Ryan]
I like to have you all around both day and night
I love the way you take me out to wine and dine
They say I need to slow it down
But I don't mind, cause they don't understand
That I don't need no man, no I don't need no man

[Chorus: Together]
To make me feel good
Let that be understood
Do me like you know you should
No I don't-I don't need no man
I got a real job
I got my own car
And I'll Protect my heart
No I don't-I don't need no man
And you know
I'll send you running toward the door
Go, go, gooo
They just don't understand
That I don't no need man
But you know that I ain't playing
Cause I don't need no man
No I don't need no man

[Verse 2: Brittany]
I don't need no man, man, man
Love the way you like to hold my hand, hand, hand
Oh such a gentlemen you give me what I want
And if I had the choice I'd never leave this man alone

[Pre-Chorus: Jude, Ryan]
I like to have you all around both day and night
I love the way you take me out to wine and dine
They say I need to slow it down
But I don't mind, cause they don't understand
That I don't need no man, no I don't need no man

[Chorus: Together]
To make me feel good
Let that be understood
Do me like you know you should
No I don't-I don't need no man
I got a real job
I got my own car
And I'll Protect my heart
No I don't-I don't need no man
And you know
I'll send you running toward the door
Go, go, gooo
They just don't understand
That I don't no need man
But you know that I ain't playing
Cause I don't need no man
No I don't need no man

[Bridge: Brittany, Jude, Ryan]
I don't need no man but I know you know
That boy you are the only one I wanna be loving on
Aye just don't get too comfortable right now that I'm feeling you
I let it all burn if you show me you want me too
I don't need no drama in my life won't deal with it
I ain't about to worry all night you know this
Love come wrapped up right with a ribbon on it
And I don't need no man to make me happy I really want you
But I don't need no man

[Chorus: Together]
To make me feel good
Let that be understood
Do me like you know you should
No I don't-I don't need no man
I got a real job
I got my own car
And I'll Protect my heart
No I don't-I don't need no man
And you know
I'll send you running toward the door
Go, go, gooo
They just don't understand
That I don't no need man
But you know that I ain't playing
Cause I don't need no man
No I don't need no man

I feel like the actress who played Simone could have definitely played Rue from Euphoria too. She gives off the same mannerisms as Zendaya's performance, (not that I dislike Zendaya's: she's perfect for the role; I just think the girl who played Simone would have been able to too).

Trevor Victor

It was basic the same characteristics for both roles

KENDRA C. well Brittany does have similar problems so I am not surprised I watched euphoria but since Brittany and zendaya both did really good in both shows I love them both but Brittany would have been a amazing surprise to Euphoria and the act she put in star is the exact act that Zendaya put into Euphoria but Brittany would have made a better appearance I agree with you but in a different way

Jiselle terrell

I actually think so to they have very similar problems and how simone plays in star if she took that act and put it in Euphoria it would be a hit but euphoria is already a hit but with simone it would be amazing you read my mind❤

@tienestostoneslet’s not do that’s don’t tear another woman down to lift one up and zendaya owes her success to ZENDAYA and zendaya only period.
