Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Cast From Eden's song Control paint a bleak picture of the modern world, one in which economic slavery and the relentless machine of capitalism leave individuals exhausted, apathetic and devoid of agency. From the opening line, it is clear that the song is a commentary on the insidious nature of economic systems that propagate the idea that the only way to achieve security and success is to submit oneself to the structures that are already in place. The metaphor of being "captivating volunteered economic slavery" is a powerful one, suggesting that individuals willingly participate in their own oppression, mesmerized by the illusion of safety that they believe the system provides.

The lyrics go on to describe the individual as a "worker drone," someone who is caught up in the production line of a "bleeding machine." Here, the imagery is one of blood and sweat, underscoring the toll that capitalist structures take on the lives and bodies of individuals. The notion of being "too content to fly away" speaks to a complacency that comes from resignation and a belief that there is no other way to live. There is a sense of hopelessness that pervades the song, a belief that even when people realize the reality of their situation, they are unable to escape it.

Throughout the song, the imagery is powerful and the lyrics are poignant. They paint a picture of a world that is both unsustainable and unjust. There is a sense of anger and frustration that comes through in the tone of the lyrics, a recognition that the system is broken but that people are unwilling or unable to break free from it. Ultimately, the song is a call to action, a plea for individuals to wake up to the reality of their situation and to demand change.

This cover art, music, album embodies the over all asthetic of this short lived style of hardcore. It seemed to me very quickly, once "metalcore" had a name, thousands of imitators came and made it mainstream. In my opinion this was hardcores final artistic push forward before the youth/kids stopped listening to rock and roll. As they should.
