This new generation of musicians, producers, and admirers of the samba and the chorinho brought back the taste of the Brazilian people to the rhythms. New monothematic groups and, inspired on the work of genius composers, started to present set lists that were already part of our subconscious, with new arrangements and production. Rio`s neighborhood, Lapa, a meeting place for bohemians within the first half of the twentieth century, was once again the place to be if one was looking for cold beers and long nights to the quality sound of songs by Cartola, Jacob do Bandolim, Chico Buarque, Nelson Cavaquinho, Ataulfo Alves, Ary Barroso, Zé Keti, Waldir Azevedo, Nei Lopes, and so many other creators, ancient, and modern artists.
Leading these group of “bambas”, Casuarina performed (and keeps performing) many important venues, not only on the neighborhood, but throughout Rio, like Ballroom, Carioca da Gema, Rio Scenarium, Fundição Progresso, Dama da Noite, and Circo Voador, disregarding great events like, projeto Roda de Samba and the 2003 and 2004 Carnavais, at Lapa – both promoted by the state of Rio – and also the 2004 edition of Samba no Trem, uniting the best there is on the genre to celebrate the Dia Nacional do Samba (national day of samba in Brazil), December 2nd. During their live performances, Casuarina already had very special guests like Arlindo Cruz, Wilson Moreira, Lenine, Walter Alfaiate, Noca da Portela, Délcio Carvalho, Luis Carlos da Vila, Marquinhos de Oswaldo Cruz, and not to mention the bateria da Portela and Imperatriz Leopoldinense.

E acendi muita lenha no fogão
E hoje o que é que eu sou?
Quem sabe de mim é o meu violão
Mas lembre que o rádio que hoje toca
Iê - iê - iê o dia inteiro
Tocava saudosa maloca
Desses tar de iê - iê - iê
Porque com eles, cantam a voz do povo
E eu, que já fui uma brasa,
Se assoprarem posso acender de novo
Eu também um dia fui uma brasa
E acendi muita lenha no fogão
E hoje o que é que eu sou?
Quem sabe de mim é o meu violão
Mas lembre que o rádio que hoje toca
Iê - iê - iê o dia inteiro
Tocava saudosa maloca
Eu gosto dos meninos
Desses tar de iê - iê - iê
Porque com eles, cantam a voz do povo
E eu, que já fui uma brasa,
Se assoprarem posso acender de novo
Eu também um dia fui uma brasa
E acendi muita lenha no fogão
E hoje o que é que eu sou?
Quem sabe de mim é o meu violão
Mas lembre que o rádio que hoje toca
Iê - iê - iê o dia inteiro
Tocava saudosa maloca
Eu gosto dos meninos
Desses tar de iê - iê - iê
Porque com eles, cantam a voz do povo
E eu, que já fui uma brasa,
Se assoprarem posso acender de novo
The song Já Fui Uma Brasa by Casuarina talks about the journey of the singer from being a relevant factor in the music industry to becoming a mere memory. The lyrics describe how once the singer was popular and relevant, and made a significant impact like a burning coal. However, over time, the singer's voice and performance have waned, and now the only one who remembers their music is their guitar. The lyrics also mention the evolution of music, how it has changed over time, and how the younger generation is driving the change. The singer acknowledges the new trend of iê-iê-iê music and appreciates the young boys who sing it, and their effort to keep the voice of the common people alive.
The song's meaning goes beyond merely reminiscing about the singer's journey; it's a testament to the fact that times change, things evolve, and what was once popular may not always remain popular. However, the spirit of music remains unaltered, it can be revived, and it can light the fire again, all it needs is a little push.

Eu também um dia fui uma brasa
I, just like fire, had a bright moment in my past
E acendi muita lenha no fogão
At that time, I was able to ignite passion in many hearts
E hoje o que é que eu sou?
But now, I wonder, who am I?
Quem sabe de mim é o meu violão
My guitar perhaps knows me best
Mas lembre que o rádio que hoje toca
But remember, the music on the radio today
Iê - iê - iê o dia inteiro
It's all that pop music, non-stop
Tocava saudosa maloca
But it used to play that old, nostalgic folk music
Eu gosto dos meninos
I like those young boys
Desses tar de íê - íê - íê
With their 'yeah yeah yeah'
Porque com eles, cantam a voz do povo
They sing for the people with their music
E eu, que já fui uma brasa,
And I, who once burned with passion
Se assoprarem posso acender de novo
If they blow on me, I might just ignite once again
