In 1952 she married juggler Erik van Aro (Gerd Eric Horst Scholz). He recognized her talent and accompanied her in her initial years of worldwide success, although they later divorced. In 1953, she made her first recordings with Kurt Edelhagen. Soon afterwards she achieved great success with songs like "Malagueña", "The Breeze and I", and "Dreh dich nicht um" with the Werner Müller orchestra. In 1955 she was featured on the "Colgate Comedy Hour" with Gordon MacRae. Between 1966 and 1972 she was a frequent guest on the Dean Martin Show. In 1972, she married the British pianist Roy Budd; they had a son, Alexander, but they divorced in 1979.
In Germany she was a major performer of Schlager music. There she recorded Cole Porter's "I love Paris" i.e. "Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe", which sold more than 500,000 copies in (1954.) Like in other countries where she was popular, some in Germany mistakenly consider her a German singer.
Over the years, she has recorded or performed with many international stars, including Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Woody Herman, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Buddy Rich, Sy Oliver, Claus Ogerman, and Chet Baker.
In 2001, she released a new album Girltalk with harpist Catherine Michel. She is also the mother of singer Eric van Aro, Jr.
Jérémie voici l'heure

Puisque l'on s′aimait trop
Puisque nos cœurs sont en lambeaux
Puisque notre amour mort
Ne tiens plus qu'à nos corps
Puisqu'il faut être fort
Alors Jérémie, Jérémie voici l′heure
Voici l′heure de se quitter
Puisque tu n'as pas pleure
Puisqu′on s'était juré
Qu′on se separerait
Se l'on devait ne plus s′aimer
Puisqu'à l'amour banal
À l′élan mechinal
Nous prieférions l′adieu final
Jérémie, Jérémie voici l'heure
Voici l′heure de payer
Jérémie je suis bien que je pleure
Pourquoi n'as-tu pas pleure
Puisque tu es parti
Chaque heure de ma vie
Me fait penser aux joies enfuies
Puisque tu m′as laissé
L'amour au temps passé
Je veux le regarder passer
Jérémie, Jérémie voici l′heure
Voici l'heure où tu venais
Jérémie tu es là et tu pleures
Je savais que tu viendrais.
The lyrics to Caterina Valente's song "Jérémie voici l'heure" reflect the pain of a breakup between two lovers who are trying to be strong and move on. The opening lines convey a sense of disbelief and despair: "Since it was too beautiful / since we loved each other too much / since our hearts are in tatters / since our love is dead." The singer acknowledges that their relationship is beyond repair and that they must now face the reality of their situation.
The chorus of the song features the refrain "Jérémie, Jérémie voici l'heure," which is a plea to her former lover to recognize the finality of their separation. Despite the pain that the singer is feeling, she implores Jérémie not to see her cry, as she is determined to be strong and move on. The second verse, with lines like "Since we said we would separate / if we were to no longer love each other," underscores the idea that the two protagonists have made this decision together and are trying to be reasonable adults about their breakup.
