In 1952 she married juggler Erik van Aro (Gerd Eric Horst Scholz). He recognized her talent and accompanied her in her initial years of worldwide success, although they later divorced. In 1953, she made her first recordings with Kurt Edelhagen. Soon afterwards she achieved great success with songs like "Malagueña", "The Breeze and I", and "Dreh dich nicht um" with the Werner Müller orchestra. In 1955 she was featured on the "Colgate Comedy Hour" with Gordon MacRae. Between 1966 and 1972 she was a frequent guest on the Dean Martin Show. In 1972, she married the British pianist Roy Budd; they had a son, Alexander, but they divorced in 1979.
In Germany she was a major performer of Schlager music. There she recorded Cole Porter's "I love Paris" i.e. "Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe", which sold more than 500,000 copies in (1954.) Like in other countries where she was popular, some in Germany mistakenly consider her a German singer.
Over the years, she has recorded or performed with many international stars, including Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Woody Herman, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Buddy Rich, Sy Oliver, Claus Ogerman, and Chet Baker.
In 2001, she released a new album Girltalk with harpist Catherine Michel. She is also the mother of singer Eric van Aro, Jr.
L'angolo Incantevole
Caterina Valente Lyrics

Incantevole
Questa strada pare uscita da una favola
Qui m'innamorai
Quando ti incontrai
Proprio qui
Del mio amor
Ti parlai
Quel cancello blu
Cos? piccolo
? il portone della reggia pi? fantastica
Qui ti accompagnai
E ti salutai
E cos?
E cos?
Ti baciai
Quaggi?
Se schiocchi le dita
Su nel ciel
La luna verr?
Se tu
Mi dai la tua vita
Nel nostro cuor
La primavera non morr?
Quest'? un angolo
Incantevole
Guardo in alto a una finestra che s'illumina
Forse ai baci miei
Tu ripensera
E di me
Del mio amor
Sognerai
Quest'? un angolo
Incantevole
Guardo in alto a una finestra che s'illumina
Forse ai baci miei
Tu ripenserai
E di me
Del mio amor
Sognerai
The song "L'angolo Incantevole" by Caterina Valente tells a beautiful love story set in a charming corner of the world. The lyrics describe a magical corner, a street that seems to come out of a fairy tale, where the singer fell in love when she met her beloved. It was in this exact spot where she spoke of her love for him.
The blue gate, so small, symbolizes the entrance to the most fantastic palace. It was here that the singer accompanied her beloved and bid him farewell, culminating in a passionate kiss. The lyrics suggest that by snapping her fingers, the moon will appear in the sky, and if her beloved gives her his life, spring will never die in their hearts.
As the singer looks up to a window that lights up, she hopes that her kisses will make her beloved think of her and dream of her love. The lyrics capture the longing and nostalgia that come with being apart from someone special, but also the hope that their love will withstand time and distance.
Overall, "L'angolo Incantevole" is a romantic and poetic song that paints a picture of a magical love story set in a charming corner of the world.
