In 1952 she married juggler Erik van Aro (Gerd Eric Horst Scholz). He recognized her talent and accompanied her in her initial years of worldwide success, although they later divorced. In 1953, she made her first recordings with Kurt Edelhagen. Soon afterwards she achieved great success with songs like "Malagueña", "The Breeze and I", and "Dreh dich nicht um" with the Werner Müller orchestra. In 1955 she was featured on the "Colgate Comedy Hour" with Gordon MacRae. Between 1966 and 1972 she was a frequent guest on the Dean Martin Show. In 1972, she married the British pianist Roy Budd; they had a son, Alexander, but they divorced in 1979.
In Germany she was a major performer of Schlager music. There she recorded Cole Porter's "I love Paris" i.e. "Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe", which sold more than 500,000 copies in (1954.) Like in other countries where she was popular, some in Germany mistakenly consider her a German singer.
Over the years, she has recorded or performed with many international stars, including Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Woody Herman, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Buddy Rich, Sy Oliver, Claus Ogerman, and Chet Baker.
In 2001, she released a new album Girltalk with harpist Catherine Michel. She is also the mother of singer Eric van Aro, Jr.

L'amore mio non puт
Disperdersi nel vento con le rose
Tanto и forte che non cederа, non sfiorirа
Io lo veglierт
Io lo difenderт
Da tutte quelli insidie velenose
Forse te ne andrai
D'altre donne le carezze cercherai a-a-ahimи
E se tornerai
Giа sfiorita ogni bellezza troverai in me
Ma l'amore no
L'amore mio non puт
Dissolversi con l'oro dei capelli
Finch'io viva sarа vivo in me, solo per te
Ma l'amore no
L'amore mio non puт
Dissolversi con l'oro dei capelli
Finch'io viva sarа vivo in me, solo per te
Solo pe te
The lyrics to Caterina Valente's "Ma l'amore no" convey an unwavering and enduring love that will not dissipate even in the face of outside forces. The singer declares that her love will not scatter in the wind with the roses but is so strong that it will not falter or wither. She vows to protect and defend her love, even from the poisonous traps that would try to tear it from her heart.
The singer acknowledges that her loved one may seek other women's caresses and if they ever return, they will find her beauty faded. However, the love she has will not dissolve with age or the passing of time. It will remain alive in her, only for that person. The repetition of "Ma l'amore no" is a declaration that love is the one thing that will not falter or fade away.
The song speaks to the idea that love is not just a fleeting emotion or something that can easily be cast away. It is a force that endures and remains present in someone's life, even when it seems impossible. The singer uses her voice to convey that love is life and that her love is forever.
