Sister
Caylee Hammack Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You saw me in the morning before any boy ever did
Said I was gorgeous, hard to believe for a kid
Who was living in your shadow
Beauty queen idol, superhero in red lipstick

You′ve always been taller, easy to look up to
Sneakin' me a dollar sneakin′ out your bedroom
Learned to do my makeup, how to put my hair up
Spent my whole life just watching you

Sister
All the secrets and sweaters that we kept
All the hearts and the cars, somehow we wrecked
Didn't know what we had when we had it

Sister
Oh, when did you make yourself lonely?
Thinkin' you ain′t got nobody
When you got me, you got me
Sister, oh, sister, oh, sister, ooh

I thought I found a good one, didn′t have a damn clue
He left me in the driveway, I ran in and called you
I couldn't stop crying, so you brought the wine in
And said, "If you hate him, I hate him too"

Sister
All the secrets and sweaters that we kept
All the hearts and the cars, somehow we wrecked
Didn′t know what we had when we had it

Sister
Oh, when did you make yourself lonely?
Thinkin' you ain′t got nobody
When you got me, you got me
Sister, oh, sister, oh, sister, oh

Blood is thicker than water
And we'll keep each other from ever going under, ooh
Blood is thicker than water
And we′ll keep each other from ever going under

Sister
All the secrets and sweaters that we kept
All the hearts and the cars, somehow we wrecked
Didn't know what we had when we had it

Sister
Oh, when did you make yourself lonely?
Thinking you ain't got nobody
But you got me, you got me
Sister, sister

Sister, oh, sister, oh, oh

Overall Meaning

In the song "Sister" by Caylee Hammack, the lyrics talk about the bond between two sisters. The first verse describes a scenario where the younger sister is being given compliments about her looks by her older sister, who is someone she has always looked up to. The older sister has been someone the younger sister has always admired and has learned from in terms of makeup and how to style her hair. The chorus talks about the secrets and moments that they shared as sisters, including heartbreaks, and how they didn't realize how special they were until it was too late. The second verse describes a time when the younger sister was heartbroken and calls her older sister in tears, who shows up with a bottle of wine and consoles her. The song's overall message is about the special bond that sisters share and how important it is to cherish these relationships while you have them.

You're an amazing artist I don't usually comment on videos, however I listened to this song about a week ago and I cannot put into words how your music literally touched my completely shattered heart💔. I lost my big sister suddenly this April and now I am caring for her 3 children and I will just say it is still raw and unreal to me, but listening to this song gives me a small sense of comfort...like she's still here. So thank you so much for sharing your amazing talents with the world I genuinely love every song on this album, you can hear your truth in the lyrics! Thank you so much again. Best wishes to you, I'll be listening!

This song brought me to tears. There's nothing I wouldn't do for my big little sister, Tashia.
I've taken ass whoopings for her. Whooped ass for her. And worked my ass off for the last 5 years to do everything in my power to make sure she never stepped foot inside of prison. No regrets.
She may not have been born of my blood, but she's been there as far as I can remember. Our parents were married when we were 4. (She's 2 months younger and a foot taller).
She will never know just how much I love her.

Lynette

If you send her this song with the words 'dedicated to you', she WILL know.

Beautiful song, reminds me of what I had with my older Brother and Sister. Lost my Sister in 2005 and Brother in 2016. Both to heart problems life is short, I'm just thankful we were close growing up. ❤

Caylee when I was younger I wrote song lyrics and always dreamed of someone singing them. And I can definitely relate to your music. I got the honor to hearing live when you toured with Miranda Lambert last year. And I am a fan! This is my new favorite song girl!
