The Prophet's Song
Cellar Darling Lyrics

Oh oh, people of the earth
Listen to the warning, the seer he said
"Beware the storm that gathers here
Listen to the wise man"

I dreamed I saw on a moonlit stair
Spreading his hands on the multitude there
A man who cried for a love gone stale
And ice cold hearts of charity bare
I watched as fear took the old men′s gaze
Hopes of the young in troubled graves
I see no day, I heard him say
"So gray is the face of every mortal"

Oh oh, people on the earth
Listen to the warning, the prophet he said
"For soon the cold of night will fall
Summoned by your own hand"
Oh oh, children of the land
Quicken to the new life, take my hand
Fly and find the new green bough
Return like the white dove

He told of death as a bone white haze
Taking the lost and the unloved babe
Late, too late, all the wretches run
These kings of beasts now counting their days
From mother's love is the son estranged
Married his own, his precious gain
The earth will shake, in two will break
And death all around will be your dowry

Oh oh, people of the earth
Listen to the warning, the seer he said
"For those who hear and mark my words
Listen to the good plan"
And two by two, my human zoo
They′ll be
Running for to come, running for to come
Out of the rain
Flee for your life
Who heed me not let all your treasure make you
Oh, fear for your life
Deceive you not, the fires of Hell will take you
Should death await you

Oh oh, people can you hear me?
Oh, people can you hear me?
And now I know, and now I know
And now I know, and now I know
And now I know that you can hear me

Now I know, now I know
Now I know, now I know
Now I know, now I know
The Earth will shake, in two will break
The Earth will shake, in two will break
The Earth will shake, in two will break
Death all around, around
Death all around, around
Death all around, around
Now I know, and now I know
Now I know, and now I know
Now I know, and now I know
Now I know, and now I know
Whoa oh, whoa oh
Whoa oh, whoa oh
Whoa oh, whoa oh
Listen to the wise, listen to the wise
Listen to the wise, listen to the wise man
La la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la
Come here; aye, you
Come here; aye, you
Come here.
Listen to the mad, listen to the mad
Listen to the mad, listen to the mad
Listen to the madman

God give you grace to purge this place
And peace all around may be your fortune
Oh oh, children of the land
Love is still the answer, take my hand
The vision fades, a voice I hear
"Listen to the madman"

But still I fear and still I dare not
Laugh at the madman

Overall Meaning

The song "The Prophet's Song" by Cellar Darling is a powerful and haunting exploration of the human experience. The first verse warns the people of Earth to listen to the seer's warning to "beware the storm that gathers here" and "listen to the wise man." The second verse is a dream sequence in which the persona sees a man crying about lost love, and old men fearing for the future of the young. The prophet tells the people to "quicken to the new life," and he prophesies that "all around [will] be your dowry."

The prophet warns that death will come to all who do not heed his warning. Those who listen to the wise plan will be saved, but those who do not will have their "treasure" deceive them, and they will be taken by the fires of Hell. The chorus implores the people to listen to the wise and the madman, and to return to a world where love is still the answer.

Overall, "The Prophet's Song" is a song that incites listeners to consider the direction of their own lives and the direction of the world. It invites them to listen to the wise and the mad, reminding them that death is inevitable, but that love is still the answer.

What an amazing song to cover from Queen. So many people take the easy road and cover songs that everyone has heard, but not you...you covered The Prophet's Song! Total respect here!

Kimdino1

IMO. The only reason this song is not well known is because it was on the same album as 'Bohemian Rhapsody' I.e. 'A Night at the Opera'. One album was not big enough for both of them! 😉

Timothy Mallon

@Kimdino1 Yeah, Bo Rhap definitely took the limelight on that album. It's funny, it's actually one of my least favorite Queen songs. Not that it's a bad song, but its the "oh of course you played THAT song" song

CF

Finally a video for this cover! It's a risk to do a Queen's cover, because only a few can do a good job on that. But you do something incredible in a very hard song. I believe if Freddie was alive he would love this cover! Congrats!

Lou Lombardi

it's not a "cover" ... its a remake. They have reinvented the song in their own style... that is remaking... "covering" is what Casino acts do play other people's songs note for note. This is awesome... VERY ORIGINAL!

lulun neitham

Lou Lombardi very original ???

CF

The band said it's a cover (read the title and see their Facebook Page).

Thomas Anderson

It’s called a Hurdy Gurdy.

Gabriel

Es un brillante Cover con impronta propia!

I'm a lifelong fan of Queen, grew up listening to them, and the Prophet's Song is my absolute favorite Queen song of all time, so I want you to understand the full meaning of what I'm saying, you gave me the same cold chills that the original does, absolutely magnificent.
