For Goodness' sake
I got the Hippy Hippy Shakes
I got the Shakes
I got the Hippy Hippy Shakes

Ooh, I can't sit still
With the Hippy Hippy Shakes
I get my fill, now
With the Hippy Hippy Shakes
Yeah, it's in the bag
Ooh, the Hippy Hippy Shake

Well, now, you shake it to the left
You shake it to the right
Do the Hippy Shake Shake
With all of your might

Ooh, baby
Ooh, yeah come on and shake
Ooh, it's in the bag
Oh,The Hippy Hippy Shake

Well, now you shake it to the left
Shake it to the right
you do the hippy shake shake
with all of your might

oh baby yeah come on shake
oh it's in the bag
Ooh, the Hippy Hippy Shake

Ooh, the Hippy Hippy Shake
Ooh, the Hippy Hippy Shake

I wonder if Bob Keane was looking at him as the next Ritchie Valens. Somebody in the Beatles organization I heard the song and thought it'd be a good vehicle for Paul McCartney's voice. It was. The Beatles recorded it, but never put it out until it landed on the anthology series. Liverpool band did release of, though. The Swinging blue jeans released it as Hippy Hippy Shakes; a follow up to You're No Good. Georgia Satellites later recorded it for a Beatles biopic.

This is the first time I ever heard of Chan's original version of his song and it absolutely blows me away!  I like the way he laughs his way through some of it...and the guitar solo sounds ethereal.  The musicians he used for this track were the same musicians who played on 'La Bamba' by Romero's hero, Ritchie Valens.  Fantastic music!

Chan Romero was managed by the late Richie Valen's manager and on the same record label. After being introduced to Richie's mom he ended up living in the house and sleeping in his bedroom!

nothing beats the original!

Back in 1962 during the Summer holidays there was a young guy who came around in a van with a portable record player in the back selling vinyl 45's very cheap. Apparently he bought them from Juke Box owners who were continually updating the latest hits, so there was a continual ready supply if you knew who to go to. The first single I ever owned was from this guy and it was The Hippy Hippy Shake by Chan Romero (later covered as a rock'n'roll classic by many artists). Unfortunately I had no record player to play it on...
At Christmas I was given a record player as a present from my mother. I could finally play the record!
