@Theechosen1from1993 I'm still a fan of Buzzcocks overall, though I preffered having a regular host. I wouldn't mind Amstell or Lamarr, both did the same job essentially. The issue with guest presenters is consistency, Terry Wogan was quirky in his own way, Frankie Boyle was quite good (not even that controversial for once), but Mark Ronson and James Cordon were terrible. The same issue applies to HIGTFY, Brian Blessed was hilarious, Anne Widdecombe was embarrasing. We need full time hosts back.

@Theechosen1from1993 I didn't know Conchords was co-written by Americans, in that case I would say it counts. I don't think Only Fools ever claimed to be genius, it was a down to Earth comedy that managed something many comedies fail to do, last without deteriorating. Thats why its looked on so warmly by most people. Peep Show won't receive the full praise it deserves until it's finished and being looked back on. I think we can count Q.I as well by the way, the Americans go wild for it!

@Theechosen1from1993 I thought Flight of the Concords was made by two New Zealanders? Even if it is on an American network, it hardly constitutes a typical U.S sitcom. The point as a whole I agree with though. Miranda and Big Top are utterly embarrasing...or should I say, "were" utterly embarrasing. Some of Americas so called "best comedies" I can't bare though, 30 Rock is terrible, the one with Charlie Sheen is worse yet is the most successful comedy show over there. I think we win overall.

@trisnjok curb your enthusiasm, community, friends, arrested development, flight of the conchords and frasier are all fantastic comedies which you forgot to mention. there's some real brainless shit over here aswell. peep show, the inbetweeners and maybe the it crowd are the only high quality modern biritish comedies. trust me as a british citizen i can say the balance between good and bad sitcoms is probably in favour of the bad ones, only we of course choose to focus on the quality sitcoms.

Are you from the US? 'Spelt' is a perfectly normal and common way to form the past tense of 'spell' in the UK and Australia and I'm sure lots of other places. So, yes, it is a word, and no, it isn't slang. (And to say slang words aren't 'words' is just nonsense in the first place.)

wunas96 yeah that's wrong. Go check the 2 different forms of past tense. There's a simple past and a perfect or perfective tense, also called the 3 form. Ie simple is drive, past is drove, perfective is driven.
These are not interchangeable. They're either right or wrong.

@scaryninja1693 i know the flight of the conchords themeselves are new zealenders, but i always thought it counted as an american show considering it was co-written by a number of american writers and produced there? anyway i'm glad you see my point. even some shows he mentioned are overhyped. only fools and horses for example is nowhere near the genius of peep show. my point is the impact of british and american television is irrelevant- for every two and a half men, there's a miranda.

@trisnjok Curb your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development and Frasier are good US sitcoms. But yeah British sitcoms generally have the best, and there are very few that are absolutly unlike in the US where 90% of it is Brainless, yet somehow in the Mainstream.

@scaryninja1693 very good point on only fools and horses. i guess that because i go to college around bermondsey in south east london (very close to peckham), there's a lot of die hard fans of the show, who unjustly claim it to be the funniest sitcom of all time :/ thanks for shedding some light on the matter! and absolutely, panel shows are some of the highlights of british tv. qi is the most consistent i guess, but i was a real fan of buzzcocks when simon amstell was host.

Yes, I realise that it also is a name for a kind of wheat. Homonyms do exist. Words are words through common usage; it doesn't matter whether or not they've made it into a dictionary yet. 'Bogan' only recently made it into the OED, but it's been a word for as long as I've been alive, certainly.

well its a difference in ppl's opinion and perception....the audience in UK and USA are different as are the audience in every other country in the world so u can't compare the 2 nations comedians in the sense as their cultures and history are different which affects how they make jokes....so i wont say whose better as its subjective...

british humour is yes smart & quick but lets face it besides the english & some smart and quick audience u wont really get it as the language maybe sometimes too deep and the slangs they use are not applicable to non native eng speakers..where as american humour yes it maybe stupid & repetitive & loud but its their intonation tat gets ppl laugh out loud...and generally except for some american based subjects its rather understandable to the outside world so both are good in their own right...
