As If We Never Met
Chanté Moore Lyrics

Doesn't mean nothing to me,
Why do I feel the way I do,
Why am I still so lost in you,
I wonder
Watching you sleep each morning,
Brushing the hair from your eyes,
'Til only emptiness remains
Was there a reason you came
And changed my life
'Cause it won't change back,
I'm trying to forget, but I can't act
As if we never met
Oh, the world going by my window
Doesn't mean nothing to me,
Why do I feel the way I do, darlin'
I'm still so lost in you
Was there a reason you came
And changed my life
'Cause it won't change back,
I'm trying to forget, but I can't act
As if we never met
The lyrics of As If We Never Met express the struggle of moving on from a past love. The first verse indicates that the singer is not interested in anything outside their own feelings. They are completely immersed in inner turmoil over the past relationship. The second verse features the singer watching the person they used to be with while they sleep. They can't help but wonder why they gave so much of themselves to this person only to be left with a feeling of emptiness. The chorus expresses the desire to forget this person so that the singer can move on, but they admit that they can't simply act as if their time together never happened.
The lyrics describe the common experience of heartbreak and the difficulty of getting over the loss of a significant other. They illustrate the feeling of being stuck in memory and the inability to move on. The line, "Why do I feel the way I do, why am I still so lost in you," speaks to the difficulty that many people experience when trying to move on from a relationship that no longer exists. The lyrics highlight the importance of accepting the past for what it was and recognizing that it will always be a part of who the singer is.
