Heartbreaker
Chaps Lyrics

Phanhaks

My friends come and tell me something -
Lately they've seen you out running, Tell me baby -
Are we gonna tackle the town?
You told me, you spent your nights working -
Instead you've been out drinking and flirting -
Two can play that game, I know how

I can be a Heartbreaker too -
I can break as many hearts as you -
I can turn them on, and turn them down.
(There ain't a trick, I can't use)
I've learned the best of them from you -
Your heart just might break before we're through -
I can be a Heartbreaker too

Some night when you're out romancing -
You might see me dancing -
With the best of the ladies in the room.
You'll be the one - who ends up stranded -

The one who's empty handed-
It'll be you'r turn to play the fool

Overall Meaning

In Chaps's song Heartbreaker, the lyrics describe a situation where the singer's friends have informed him that his partner has been seen out drinking and flirting instead of working as she claimed. The singer decides that since his partner is playing games, he can too. He vows to become a heartbreaker himself and break as many hearts as his partner has. The lyrics detail that he has been paying attention to her tricks, and he knows her moves. He warns his partner that she might end up heartbroken before he is through.

The song's lyrics are essentially the singer's way of saying that he will not stand to be played and taken for granted. He has decided to retaliate and show his partner that he is not afraid to play dirty as well. The chorus is a declaration of his intentions; he will become a heartbreaker just like his partner. In general, the song is about powerplay in a relationship, with both partners vying for the upper hand.
